The Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals are amassing points at a blinding pace, so perhaps it's appropriate that the start of Thursday's Winter Classic could be delayed by sun glare. Chicago has enjoyed a 15-3-1 stretch to claim the top spot in the Central Division while Washington has recorded at least one point in 11 of its last 12 (8-1-3) to move within striking distance in the Metropolitan.

The Los Angeles Kings attempt to salvage the finale of their three-game trek across Western Canada when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Los Angeles began the trip with a 2-1 loss at Calgary on Monday and rallied from a two-goal deficit before falling 3-2 in a shootout at Edmonton the following night. Defensemen Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin tallied in the third period as the Kings earned a point before suffering their fifth straight road loss (0-3-2).
