Harvard at Virginia 12:00 PM ET
Virginia is making its way up the rankings on the strength of its stifling defense and will try to run its winning streak to 11 straight to start the season when it hosts Harvard on Sunday. The fifth-ranked Cavaliers are among the nation’s leaders in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 48.1 points, and run an efficient offense behind guard Justin Anderson. The Crimson have won six straight and are coming off a 13-day layoff.
Oregon St. at Quinnipiac 1:00 PM ET
Oregon State is off to its best start to a season since 1984 and will try to improve on that when it travels across the country to visit Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon. The Beavers have won five straight, including their last two by an average margin of 29.5 points. Oregon State faces a Bobcats squad that just snapped a three-game losing streak and is only 3-3 at home this season.
Maryland at Oklahoma St. 2:00 PM ET
No. 18 Maryland is doing all it can to prepare for its first foray into the Big Ten by playing a strong non-conference schedule, which includes Sunday's game at Oklahoma State. The Terrapins will have had eight days off leading up to their first true road game of the season against a Cowboys team that has won nine straight at home. "Hopefully we'll play well," head coach Mark Turgeon told the media. "It's a step we have to make. It's hard to win on the road."
Creighton at North Texas 2:00 PM ET
Creighton looks to put together some momentum heading into the holiday break when it travels to face North Texas in its non-conference finale before moving into Big East play. The Bluejays have been up and down over the past month, going 4-3 over their last seven games after a 5-0 start. North Texas is coming off a home win on Wednesday that snapped a three-game losing skid.
Coker at South Carolina 3:30 PM ET
South Carolina has won four in a row following a 2-3 start, and sophomore guard Duane Notice is leading the Gamecocks’ surge. South Carolina hosts Coker on Sunday looking to extend its winning streak to the school’s longest in two years, and Notice aims to continue a four-game streak in which he has averaged 19.5 points while shooting 12-of-27 from 3-point range. Notice’s career-high five 3-pointers sparked South Carolina to a 68-45 rout of in-state rival Clemson on Friday.
Southern California at Boston College 4:00 PM ET
USC coach Andy Enfield hopes a trip east can solve his team's shooting woes. The Trojans, who rank 190th in the nation in scoring (67.9) and 265th in field-goal percentage (41.4), look to improve upon those numbers Sunday when they visit Boston College. It will be a tough test for USC since BC has won all five of its home games and has won its last four games overall by an average of 13 points.
Seton Hall at Georgia 6:00 PM ET
Seton Hall has won nine of its first 10 games, and heading into Sunday’s contest at Georgia, coach Kevin Willard knows his shooters are the spark behind the Pirates’ hot start. “We always have guys out there who can make shots,” Willard said after the Pirates beat South Florida on Thursday, 89-69, placing five players in double figures while shooting 53.8 percent. The Bulldogs have won two in a row and five out of seven, topping Colorado 64-57 on Dec. 7.
Appalachian St. at Alabama 6:30 PM ET
Alabama rested two starters in Friday’s win over Division II Stillman, but coach Anthony Grant will surely use his full roster for Sunday’s home game against Appalachian State. The Mountaineers defeated Virginia Tech last month and could be a dangerous opponent for Alabama, which bounced back from its 53-52 loss at Wichita State with a 20-point win over Stillman. Guards Rodney Cooper and Ricky Tarrant were each given the night off, but both are expected to start against the Mountaineers.
San Jose St. at Washington St. 7:00 PM ET
The new year can’t arrive soon enough for San Jose State, which is eager to turn the page on a forgettable 2014. The Spartans visit Washington State on Sunday in search of their first win over a Division I opponent, but they’ll likely be without five players, including their top four scorers, who have been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. The turmoil extended to the bench on Thursday, when associate head coach Chris Brazelton was placed on paid administrative leave.
