Preview Roundups
December 06, 2016
Houston at Arkansas 7:00 PM ET
Good things happen for Arkansas when it opens the season hot - and that's exactly what the Razorbacks aim to do as they prepare to host old rival Houston on Tuesday night. Arkansas has rolled to three straight victories, most recently a 99-62 trouncing of Austin Peay, but could be in tough against a Cougars team that has also started the season on fire.
Presbyterian at Tennessee 7:00 PM ET
Tennessee is attempting to get into a rhythm after a slow start and aims to move above .500 for the first time this season when it hosts Presbyterian on Tuesday. Last Saturday's 81-58 victory over Georgia Tech was the Volunteers' most impressive win of the season and they look to make it three straight wins before Sunday's road outing at No. 5 North Carolina.
Southern Miss at Florida St. 7:00 PM ET
Coming of its best defensive performance, Florida State returns home to host Southern Mississippi on Tuesday. While the Seminoles' torrid scoring pace - 86 or more points in each of their first five games - has slowed down, the defensive intensity has picked up with Minnesota, Illinois and George Washington shooting a combined 29.7 percent - including a 22.7-percent effort by the Colonials in FSU's 67-48 win on Sunday.
South Carolina State at Miami-Florida 7:00 PM ET
Hosting a South Carolina State team on Tuesday that has lost three games by more than 40 points, Miami (Fla.) coach Jim Larranaga should be able to experiment with his lineup as the Hurricanes continue to prepare for the start of ACC play on Dec. 31. Five-star recruits Dewan Huell and Bruce Brown already have displaced Ebuka Izundu and Anthony Lawrence Jr. as starters, and Larranaga likely will give fellow freshman Dejan Vasiljevic - a 3-point marksman - more minutes against the Bulldogs.
East Carolina at Virginia 7:00 PM ET
Virginia saw a 24-game homecourt winning streak end last Saturday and the No. 12 Cavaliers attempt to start a new run of success when they host East Carolina on Tuesday. The Cavaliers dropped a 66-57 decision to West Virginia to see the sixth-longest homecourt victory streak conclude and the disappointing performance included a season-worst 14 turnovers.
Brown at Providence 7:00 PM ET
Providence will try to build off a big win over one in-state rival when they take on another in visiting Brown on Tuesday. The Friars outlasted then-No. 25 Rhode Island 63-60 on Saturday, riding 19 points and eight assists from Kyron Cartwright and another solid defensive effort to their seventh straight win over the Rams.
Youngstown St. at Michigan St 7:00 PM ET
Michigan State looks to stay perfect in home games this season Tuesday when it hosts non-conference foe Youngstown State. The Spartans have dropped four games this year, all at neutral sites or on the road, while going a perfect 3-0 at home at the Breslin Center.
Florida Atlantic at Ohio St. 7:00 PM ET
Ohio State looks to put together a sharper effort and build momentum with two big games on the horizon as they prepare to host Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night. The Buckeyes struggled to turn back Fairleigh Dickinson 70-62 on Saturday after coughing up a big lead in a loss at Virginia, and must be better with contests against Connecticut and UCLA up next on the schedule.
Purdue at Arizona State 7:00 PM ET
Arizona State and No. 19 Purdue will try to continue their hot 3-point shooting when they collide Tuesday night at the Jimmy V. Classic in New York City. The Sun Devils tied a school record with 18 3-pointers in 36 attempts Saturday night in a 97-73 win against visiting UNLV, a few hours after the Boilermakers shot 15-of-29 from beyond the arc in a 90-56 victory against visiting Morehead State.
Central Conn. St. at Rutgers 7:00 PM ET
Former University of Connecticut standouts face off on the sidelines for the first time when Rutgers hosts Central Connecticut State on Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights are undefeated at home and already matched their victory total from last season.
Charlotte at Wake Forest 7:00 PM ET
Danny Manning and Mark Price are certainly not strangers, having played in a pair of NBA All-Star Games against each other in 1993 and 1994. Now, they'll square off for the first time as collegiate head coaches Tuesday as Manning leads Wake Forest against visiting Charlotte, guided by Price.
La Salle at Villanova 7:00 PM ET
In its new spot atop the coaches poll, Villanova will continue its Big 5 schedule Tuesday with a neutral-site contest against Philadelphia rival La Salle. The Wildcats won last week against Pennsylvania and Saint Joseph's, both of which are fellow members of the Big 5 - a group of Philadelphia schools who play a round-robin every season.
California at Princeton 7:00 PM ET
Preparing for Princeton’s style of play can be a daunting task, but California has a leg up heading into Tuesday’s matchup at the Pearl Harbor Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. Golden Bears guard Grant Mullins faced Princeton five times during his three seasons at Columbia and can offer a unique perspective on the Tigers, who rank second in the Ivy League in scoring defense at 68 points per game.
Fresno St. at Marquette 7:30 PM ET
Marquette learned a valuable lesson about how to protect a lead against a good team, something that could come in handy in Tuesday's game against visiting Fresno State and in the future. The Golden Eagles opened up a 16-point lead in the second half at Georgia, and unlike in an earlier game against Pittsburgh, held on for a 10-point victory over the Bulldogs.
Miami (OH) at Missouri 8:00 PM ET

Missouri coach Kim Anderson knew the learning curve would be steep for one of the youngest teams in the nation, and the Tigers have faced their share of learning experiences early in the season. Anderson’s Tigers hope to take another step in their growth when they host Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday.

High Point at Vanderbilt 8:00 PM ET
Vanderbilt leads the SEC in 3-point shooting entering Tuesday’s non-conference home contest with High Point, but so far that long-range attack has led to just four wins in eight games under new coach Bryce Drew. The Commodores actually shot better from 3-point range (32 percent) than overall from the field (a season-worst 30.2 percent) in Saturday’s 56-52 loss to Minnesota, negating another strong performance from Jeff Roberson.
Indiana - Purdue at Illinois 8:00 PM ET
Illinois appeared to be on the verge of heading down the same path it did last year when it posted its worst record of the century, but the program may be back on track after recently experiencing a forgettable three-game stretch. The Fighting Illini attempt to build off back-to-back solid victories Tuesday when they host IUPUI for the first time since their initial meeting exactly 10 years ago.
New Jersey Tech at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Minnesota starts a six-game homestand looking to continue to make its name nationally when it hosts New Jersey Tech in a non-conference affair on Tuesday. The Golden Gophers are starting to gain some recognition after starting 7-1, with their most recent win coming over Vanderbilt in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Utah Valley at Utah 8:00 PM ET
Utah's Kyle Kuzma thrives in his role of point forward and the 6-9 junior is a big reason - along with a soft schedule - why the Utes are off to a 5-1 start as they host dangerous Utah Valley on Tuesday. Kuzma leads Utah in scoring (16.5 points per game), rebounding (10.8) and assists (3.5), and just missed a triple-double when the Utes bounced back from their only loss of the season - a 68-59 setback to No. 16 Butler on Nov. 28 - with a 92-84 win over Montana State on Thursday.
UMKC at Kansas 8:00 PM ET
While Frank Mason III may be the one constant in the Kansas backcourt, there are no shortage of quality options at guard for the Jayhawks this season. Kansas should have yet another opportunity to show off its impressive depth Tuesday as the third-ranked Jayhawks attempt to run the nation's longest home winning streak to 47 games when they host UMKC.
Prairie View A&M at Kansas St. 8:00 PM ET
Kansas State isn't sure what kind of test - if any - it will get when it hosts Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, but there are plenty down the road once Big 12 season begins. The Wildcats are moving in the right direction, though, after their 84-53 victory over Saint Louis on Saturday marked their largest non-conference road victory in more than 50 years while their 5-0 home record comes by an average of 20.5 points.
Florida at Duke 9:00 PM ET

Duke is inching toward full strength just in time for one of the toughest tests of its non-conference schedule. The fourth-ranked Blue Devils should have nearly every weapon at their disposal when they take on No. 21 Florida on Tuesday in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Texas at Michigan 9:00 PM ET
Michigan looks to beat Texas for the third time in as many years when it hosts the Longhorns on Tuesday. The Wolverines cruised past Texas 79-65 in the third round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament before downing the Longhorns 78-72 in the Battle for Atlantis in 2015, and they hope to continue their recent dominance of Big 12 opponents by improving to 7-1 against the conference since 2011-12.
Lamar at DePaul 9:00 PM ET
With its three-game win streak snapped, DePaul tries to start another Tuesday against visiting Lamar. The Blue Demons shot 24 percent in the first half and fell into a huge 54-18 hole before rallying in the second half to make it look respectable in a loss at Northwestern.
IUPU - Ft. Wayne at Notre Dame 9:00 PM ET
After a record-setting performance in a demolition of North Carolina A&T on Sunday, Notre Dame looks for another first under coach Mike Brey when impressive Fort Wayne visits Tuesday. The 22nd-ranked Fighting Irish set a school record by placing seven players in double figures in the 107-53 victory over the Aggies and can start 9-0 for the first time in Brey’s 17-year tenure.
Hawaii at Seton Hall 9:30 PM ET
Seton Hall and Hawaii will face off Tuesday at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu as part of a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks. The Pirates are an offensive machine, while the Rainbow Warriors are outside the top 250 in terms of scoring average on the young season.
UC Irvine at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
Arizona has lost two of its last three games to drop from No. 9 in the coaches' poll two weeks ago to No. 20, and the Wildcats will try to straighten themselves out Tuesday night against visiting UC Irvine. Arizona lost to No. 8 Gonzaga on Saturday night, 69-62, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, eight days after losing by four points to then-unranked Butler in the championship game of the Continental Las Vegas Invitational.
