Preview Roundups
January 27, 2015
West Virginia at Kansas St. 7:00 PM ET
Kansas State has had almost a full year to figure out Juwan Staten. The West Virginia junior enjoyed the finest game of his career the last time he faced the Wildcats, and he'll look for an encore performance Tuesday when the teams meet on Kansas State's home court. Staten scored 35 points - seven more than any other game in his career - in an 81-71 win over the Wildcats on Feb. 1, 2014 as he shot 8-of-13 from the field and 18-of-21 from the foul line.
Vanderbilt at Georgia 7:00 PM ET
Georgia brings a four-game winning streak into Tuesday’s home contest against Vanderbilt, and there will be plenty of focus on sophomore guard J.J. Frazier. The SEC Player of the Week scored a career-high 37 points – the highest output in the conference this season – and hit all seven of his 3-point attempts in Saturday’s 72-66 victory at Mississippi State. The Commodores have lost five in a row, including a 70-67 home defeat to Georgia on Jan. 14.
Nebraska at Michigan 7:00 PM ET
Confidence takes a back seat to strengthening an NCAA Tournament resume at this time of the year, although Michigan and Nebraska may have achieved both despite vastly different results last weekend. Michigan, which hosts the Cornhuskers on Tuesday, was able to stretch No. 5 Wisconsin to overtime on Saturday before falling 69-64. The loss was a formidable one for the Wolverines, who were playing their second game after losing do-everything guard Caris LeVert for the season with a foot injury.
Tulsa at Tulane 7:00 PM ET
Tulsa has not lost in a conference game in nearly a calendar year and will try to stay undefeated in league play when it visits Tulane on Tuesday. The Green Wave were off to a strong start but have run into some trouble of late with losses in three of the last four games, including two straight at home. The Golden Hurricane have won 18 straight conference games since falling at Louisiana Tech in a Conference USA test on Feb. 6, 2014.
Xavier at Georgetown 7:00 PM ET
With its longest win streak of the season hanging in the balance, No. 22 Georgetown will seek revenge for its worst defeat of the season when it plays visiting Xavier Tuesday in Big East action. The Hoyas received contributions from a variety of players in beating Marquette for their fourth straight victory and set their sights on the Musketeers, who enjoyed a 17-point win in the first meeting.
Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech 7:00 PM ET
After facing four consecutive top 15 teams, Virginia Tech tries to snap a 12-game regular-season ACC losing streak when Pittsburgh visits Tuesday. The Hokies lost to Louisville, North Carolina and Notre Dame before squandering a 10-point lead in a 50-47 loss to No. 2 Virginia on Sunday. The Panthers dropped their second straight, 80-68 to Louisville on Sunday.
George Washington at VCU 7:00 PM ET
Two of the elite teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference square off Tuesday night as 15th-ranked VCU hosts George Washington. The Rams bring an 11-game win streak into the contest courtesy of Treveon Graham’s final-second layup Friday which gave VCU a 63-61 win at Saint Louis. The Colonials, meanwhile, have won four straight and 10 of their last 11 games overall after a 74-59 home victory over Duquesne on Saturday.
Baylor at Oklahoma St. 9:00 PM ET
Baylor has won 15 of its last 16 home games, but the road has not been a particularly comforting place for the Bears. The 19th-ranked Bears visit Oklahoma State on Tuesday looking to win for the fifth time in their last six games, although their only loss in that stretch was a road defeat against Kansas State on Jan. 17. Baylor has played five road games this season, losing to Oklahoma and Kansas State while winning the other three contests by four, three and seven (in overtime).
Texas A&M at Auburn 9:00 PM ET
Auburn hasn’t had any success on the road this season, but the Tigers are hoping a return home will make a difference when they host Texas A&M in an SEC game Tuesday. Auburn coughed up a nine-point lead with just over seven minutes remaining and lost at Alabama on Saturday night to fall to 0-6 on the road. The Aggies let a 17-point deficit slip to five at Tennessee on Saturday, but held on for a 67-61 victory.
Tennessee at Arkansas 9:00 PM ET
Arkansas is living on the edge these days, winning its last two games by a total of three points, including an overtime victory over Alabama at the buzzer. Now the No. 25 Razorbacks on Tuesday get a shot at some revenge against visiting Tennessee, which snapped Arkansas' seven-game win streak two weeks ago. That victory started a three-game winning streak for the Volunteers, who had that snapped with a loss to Texas A&M in their last outing.
Florida at Alabama 9:00 PM ET
Florida coach Billy Donovan isn't interested in predicting the future, so he doesn't know if his Gators will turn their season around - starting with a visit to Alabama on Tuesday. "We've shown no signs of consistency,'' Donovan told reporters Monday after Florida lost its third straight game, 72-71 at Ole Miss on Saturday. "Now we’re working on those things, but there haven’t been any signs that I’ve seen that makes me go, 'wow we’re OK'. We’re not OK.''
Colorado St. at Boise St. 11:00 PM ET
Two Mountain West teams boasting four-game winning streaks square off on the hardwood when No. 24 Colorado State visits Boise State on Tuesday. The Rams recorded their fourth straight win by building a big lead on Saturday against San Diego State and fighting off a comeback for a 79-73 victory. Boise State has recovered from a 0-3 start in conference play with four consecutive victories, including a 77-68 win over Air Force on Saturday.
