Preview Roundups
November 12, 2014
Detroit at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Wizards look to continue their stellar start to the season when they host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. The Wizards have won five out of their last six games, including a 97-90 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday, and share top spot in the Southeast Division standings with the Miami Heat. Washington begins a four-game homestand and hopes to avenge a 104-98 loss to the Pistons in the last meeting between the teams on Jan. 18.
Utah at Atlanta 7:30 PM ET
A key member of the Utah Jazz will be making a rare homecoming appearance for the second consecutive game when the team plays at the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Two nights after Gordon Hayward made his return to Indianapolis to face the Pacers, forward Derrick Favors returns to the city where he was born and later starred at South Atlanta High School. Favors led the team a state championship during his senior year in 2009, and was MVP of the McDonald’s All-American game that year.
Oklahoma City at Boston 7:30 PM ET
Rajon Rondo will be back in action Wednesday when he leads the Boston Celtics into a matchup at home with Oklahoma City. Rondo missed his team's 106-101 win at Chicago on Saturday after having screws removed from his surgically repaired left hand, a procedure that was expected to take place later in the season but initiated after the speedy point guard had some soreness. Without their floor general, the Celtics shot 51.9 percent and got seven players in double figures in the win over Chicago.
Indiana at Miami 7:30 PM ET
It was a marquee event last season when the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat collided while battling for Eastern Conference supremacy. Only the Heat look like legitimate contenders in the early going and will try to take advantage of the visiting Pacers on Wednesday. LeBron James is gone to Cleveland but Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade are playing better than ever and Luol Deng is getting more comfortable in Miami.
Orlando at New York 7:30 PM ET
The pressure is beginning to build on the New York Knicks, who have yet to score 100 points in a game and have dropped five straight contests after a promising start. The Knicks look to start moving forward again, as they continue to learn first-year coach Derek Fisher’s new system, when the Orlando Magic visit Wednesday. The Magic might be the right opponent at the right time after they let an 11-point lead get away in the fourth quarter during a 104-100 loss at Toronto on Tuesday.
L.A. Lakers at New Orleans 8:00 PM ET
Anthony Davis is off to an outstanding start and the New Orleans power forward looks to record his fourth straight double-double when the Pelicans host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. Davis is averaging 24.8 points, 13 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots and is providing hope that New Orleans can make a run at a playoff spot. He averaged 25 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots against the Lakers last season.
Portland at Denver 9:00 PM ET
The Denver Nuggets attempt to halt a five-game slide when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. One of Denver’s losses came against Portland on Sunday, when it succumbed 116-100 as the Trail Blazers knocked down 16 3-point baskets. Portland recovered from a 23-point deficit to post a 102-100 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday as point guard Damian Lillard had 29 points and seven assists and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge had 25 points and 14 rebounds.
Brooklyn at Phoenix 9:00 PM ET
The Phoenix Suns are trying out a three-point guard approach and Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas have each had their moments. The Suns will need all three to stop a resurgent Deron Williams when Phoenix hosts the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Williams is the reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week after putting up 20.8 points and seven assists in four games last week while leading the Nets to three wins in four games.
Houston at Minnesota 10:00 PM ET
The Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves will be without their starting point guards when they meet Wednesday in Mexico City. Ricky Rubio suffered a severely sprained left ankle in Minnesota’s loss to the Orlando Magic on Friday and could be sidelined up to two months. Patrick Beverley of Houston is battling a hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated Friday.
