Preview Roundups
October 31, 2014
Memphis at Indiana 7:00 PM ET
Teams that rely on their big men meet Friday when Indiana hosts Memphis. With several teammates out with injuries, a rejuvenated Roy Hibbert controlled the middle in the Pacers' season-opening win over Philadelphia with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. LIkewise in Memphis, Marc Gasol scored a career-high 32 points and Zach Randolph added 25 and 13 rebounds as the Grizzlies edged Minnesota in their opener.
Cleveland at Chicago 8:00 PM ET
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls are the two popular picks to battle each other for Eastern Conference supremacy. Both teams will get an early look at how they stack up against one another when Derrick Rose and the Bulls host LeBron James and the Cavaliers on Friday. Chicago dominated the New York Knicks on the road in their opener on Wednesday while Cleveland showed it still has some work to do in its first game.
Philadelphia at Milwaukee 8:30 PM ET
Milwaukee showed new coach Jason Kidd why it had the worst record in the NBA last season during the opener Wednesday at Charlotte. The Bucks will try to rebound from squandering a 24-point lead when they host Philadelphia on Friday. The 76ers, who have the youngest team in the league and are coming off a loss to Indiana, could be the perfect bounce-back opponent for the Bucks.
San Antonio at Phoenix 10:00 PM ET
The San Antonio Spurs began their championship defense with a tight win over the Dallas Mavericks despite finals MVP Kawhi Leonard sitting out. The Spurs will have Leonard in the lineup when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Friday. The Suns got off to a nice start by pounding the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday and seamlessly integrated point guard Isaiah Thomas into their up-tempo attack.
Portland at Sacramento 10:00 PM ET
LaMarcus Aldridge looks to continue his stellar start to the season when the Portland Trail Blazers hit the road to face the Sacramento Kings on Friday. The All-Star forward scored 27 points as the Trail Blazers overcame a slow start to surge past the Oklahoma City Thunder 106-89 to win their 14th straight home opener. Portland has beaten Sacramento in four of the last five meetings, but the last two games have been decided by a combined five points.
L.A. Clippers at L.A. Lakers 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Clippers will face a team riddled with injuries for the second consecutive night when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. The Clippers slipped by the Oklahoma City Thunder in their season opener Thursday, but only by three points against a team that was down to eight players because of injuries. The Lakers aren’t that bad off but they’re still reeling after the loss of rookie Julius Randle to a season-ending broken leg in their season opener Tuesday.
