Preview Roundups
October 29, 2016
Atlanta at Philadelphia 12:30 PM ET
Philadelphia 76ers center Nerlens Noel suggested to anyone that would listen that the team's employ of three starting-caliber centers was not a good idea, but no one has ever seen it even be attempted during a real game. The 76ers will again be without Noel when they face a team with no controversy at the starting center spot in the visiting Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.
Boston at Charlotte 7:00 PM ET
The Charlotte Hornets opened the season with back-to-back road wins and aim to continue the success when they face the Boston Celtics in their home opener on Saturday. Charlotte's second win came in impressive fashion on Friday as it rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit to record a 97-91 road victory over the Miami Heat.
Memphis at New York 7:30 PM ET
The New York Knicks got a good look at just how far away they are from being the kind of super team that can challenge in the Eastern Conference when they were crushed at Cleveland on opening night. The Knicks will try to find some of the chemistry they were lacking and put one in the win column when they host the Memphis Grizzlies in the home opener on Saturday.
Orlando at Cleveland 7:30 PM ET
The Cleveland Cavaliers began pursuit of their NBA championship with consecutive victories and look to add another win when they host the Orlando Magic on Saturday. Cleveland opened with victories over the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors and is seeking its 15th consecutive victory over Orlando.
Indiana at Chicago 8:00 PM ET
The new-look Chicago Bulls showed plenty of fight in a season-opening victory and will try to carry that same spunk into a matchup with the visiting Indiana Pacers on Saturday. Behind 22 points from Dwyane Wade in his first game with the club, the Bulls got past Boston 105-99 on Thursday, surviving a chippy affair with a team-first effort that wasn't always evident last season.
Brooklyn at Milwaukee 8:00 PM ET
Giannis Antetokounmpo seems more than ready to carry the load for the Milwaukee Bucks, but it is unknown how much support he will get. The Bucks' $100 million man will try to follow up an impressive season debut when he leads his team into a matchup with the visiting Brooklyn Nets on Saturday.
New Orleans at San Antonio 8:00 PM ET
San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard was MVP runner-up last season and he appears highly interested in winning the award this season. Leonard is the first player in NBA history to open a season with back-to-back 30-point, five-steal efforts since steals became a stat in 1973-74 and looks for another strong effort Saturday when the Spurs host the New Orleans Pelicans.
Portland at Denver 9:00 PM ET
The Denver Nuggets had some trouble guarding a big man in their season opener but did well enough against the guards to come out with the win. The Nuggets will try to keep the defensive pressure on the perimeter when they host Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
Minnesota at Sacramento 10:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Sacramento Kings both brought in new head coaches with strong defensive resumes designed to coax talented rosters into some discipline. That process is ongoing, and both teams will get an early look at which is improving faster when the Kings host the Timberwolves on Saturday.
