Preview Roundups
April 20, 2014
Dallas at San Antonio 1:00 PM ET
The San Antonio Spurs carry a host of relevant winning streaks into the opener of their best-of-seven first-round series with the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. The Spurs, who are looking to repeat as Western Conference champions, won their final 15 home games of the regular season and have taken nine straight meetings with their in-state rivals. Included in that run of dominance was a 109-100 win at Dallas on April 10 that helped push the Mavericks to the undesirable eighth seed in the West.
Charlotte at Miami 3:30 PM ET
The Miami Heat typically roll through Charlotte but might have to work a little bit harder this time around when they open a first-round playoff series against the visiting Bobcats on Sunday. The second-seeded Heat are 15-0 against Charlotte since LeBron James joined the squad, including a four-game sweep this season capped by James scoring a career-high 61 points on March 3. The No. 7 seed Bobcats posted a 20-9 mark after the All-Star break and have won eight of their last nine games.
Washington at Chicago 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Wizards worked hard over the final week of the regular season to jump into the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference. Their reward for that strong finish is a date with the fourth-seeded Chicago Bulls, who will host Game 1 of the best-of-seven set on Sunday. The Bulls led the league in scoring defense and have one of the best defensive and offensive forces in the league in the middle in center Joakim Noah.
Portland at Houston 9:30 PM ET
Two offensive powerhouse squads are set to keep the scoreboard busy when the Houston Rockets entertain the visiting Portland Trail Blazers in Sunday’s opening game of the first-round Western Conference series. Fourth-seeded Houston averaged 116 points while winning three of the four regular-season meetings and finished second in the league in scoring at 107.7 points. Fifth-seeded Portland was fourth in scoring at 106.7 and put up an average of 109.5 against the Rockets.
