Preview Roundups
April 08, 2014
Detroit at Atlanta 7:30 PM ET
Despite sliding down the standings since Christmas, the Atlanta Hawks are closing in on the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. They can take another step toward clinching the No. 8 seed with a win over the visiting Detroit Pistons on Tuesday. The Hawks have won 10 straight home games against the Pistons, who haven't won consecutive games since a three-game streak from Feb. 7-10.
Brooklyn at Miami 8:00 PM ET
The Brooklyn Nets have spent the last few months proving they belong among the elite teams in the Eastern Conference. The Nets will get a chance to make their case once again when they visit the Miami Heat on Tuesday. Brooklyn won each of the first three meetings with the Heat and owns a 32-13 record in 2014 while East-leading Miami is 29-16 in that span with a pair of losses to the Nets.
San Antonio at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The San Antonio Spurs prepare to forge ahead with or without star point guard Tony Parker as they begin a quick two-game road trip at Minnesota on Tuesday. Parker left Sunday's 112-92 win over Memphis with back spasms not long after taking a hard fall in the first quarter. Even without their floor general, the Spurs dominated a desperate Grizzlies team to pick up its 20th win in 21 games and enter this one with a 4 1/2-game lead over Oklahoma City for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Dallas at Utah 9:00 PM ET
The Dallas Mavericks have a chance at a well-timed sweep of a four-game road trip as they play the Utah Jazz on Tuesday in the finale of an excursion through the West. Dallas stands in seventh place in the Western Conference with four games remaining and is 1 1/2 games ahead of ninth-place Memphis in what has been a tight three-team battle (along with Phoenix) for the final two spots. The Mavericks are looking for their sixth consecutive road victory.
Oklahoma City at Sacramento 10:00 PM ET
The slumping Oklahoma City Thunder are suddenly having to fend off the Los Angeles Clippers for second place in the Western Conference as they enter Tuesday’s road tussle with the Sacramento Kings. Oklahoma City is just one game ahead of the Clippers – the teams play in Los Angeles on Wednesday – after suffering back-to-back losses and falling out of the battle for the top spot. The Thunder allowed an average of 116.5 points in losing the first two of a four-game road swing.
Houston at L.A. Lakers 10:30 PM ET
The No. 3 spot in the Western Conference is looking like it won’t happen for the Houston Rockets, but a forgiving schedule should help them lock up the No. 4 slot. The Rockets will begin a three-game road trip at the sinking Los Angeles Lakers and play only one more game against a playoff contender. Houston is still waiting on Dwight Howard to return from an ankle injury but James Harden is doing his best to make up for the loss on the offensive end.
