Preview Roundups
April 06, 2014
New York at Miami 1:00 PM ET
Sitting on the periphery of the Eastern Conference playoff race, the New York Knicks can't afford another loss the rest of the way. They'll be in for one of the biggest challenges of the season Sunday afternoon as they face the conference-leading Heat in Miami. New York is coming off a 90-89 heartbreaker to the Washington Wizards on Friday night and enters Sunday's action one game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
L.A. Lakers at L.A. Clippers 3:30 PM ET
The Clippers are the new basketball kings of Los Angeles, and they'll try to make another statement to that effect when they face the Lakers on Sunday. The rivals square off for the fourth and final time this season with the Clippers trying to continue their dominance from the past two meetings. The Lakers won the first matchup this season, but the Clippers have won the last two by a combined 84 points, including a 142-94 drubbing on March 6.
Dallas at Sacramento 6:00 PM ET
The Dallas Mavericks' margin for error is razor-thin as they head to Sacramento to face the lowly Kings on Sunday. The Mavericks sit seventh in the Western Conference, but they're just a half-game ahead of Memphis and Phoenix in a wild race for the final two playoff spots. Dallas has won four straight on the road — it hasn't won five in a row away from home since its NBA-title season in 2010-11.
Atlanta at Indiana 6:00 PM ET
The Indiana Pacers look to turn things around Sunday against visiting Atlanta in a game that has an impact on two separate Eastern Conference playoff races. The Pacers have dropped six of their last eight games and now sit percentage points back of the Miami Heat in the race for the No. 1 seed in the conference. Atlanta is coming off an impressive 117-98 victory over Cleveland and sits a game up on the Knicks for eighth place in the East.
Denver at Houston 7:00 PM ET
The Houston Rockets have clinched a postseason berth heading into Sunday's game against the visiting Nuggets and now they’ll aim to get healthy and hold on to home-court advantage for the first round of the playoffs. The Rockets played without starters Dwight Howard (ankle) and Patrick Beverley (knee) again Friday night and still beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-107. Beverley likely won’t return until the postseason, while Howard is closing in on the window he set for his return.
Memphis at San Antonio 7:00 PM ET
The Memphis Grizzlies can’t afford any stumbles as they battle for a playoff spot and will need to navigate around a big roadblock in front of them when they visit the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. Memphis is 0-3 against San Antonio this season and was also swept by the Spurs in last season’s Western Conference finals. Another loss to San Antonio would be painful as the Grizzlies are tied for the eighth and final postseason spot in the West with the Phoenix Suns.
Utah at Golden State 9:00 PM ET
The Golden State Warriors are attempting to sweep Utah for the first time as well as maintain their hold on sixth place in the Western Conference when they host the Jazz on Sunday. Golden State has won the first three meetings with Utah – two by double digits – and enters the season-series finale with a 1 1/2-game lead over the Dallas Mavericks. Utah resides in last place in the Western Conference and is experiencing its worst season since going 26-56 in 2004-05.
Oklahoma City at Phoenix 9:00 PM ET
The Phoenix Suns continue a challenging home stretch when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The Suns snapped a two-game losing streak with a clutch 109-93 win at Portland to remain tied with eighth-place Memphis, which would gain the final playoff spot over Phoenix by virtue of a tiebreaker if the postseason began today. Including the visit from the Thunder, the Suns also host the Grizzlies and visit Dallas - which is a half-game up - and San Antonio in the stretch run.
New Orleans at Portland 9:00 PM ET
The Portland Trail Blazers will get another shot at clinching a playoff berth when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday. The Trail Blazers missed a chance to become the fifth Western Conference team to lock up a spot when they lost Friday to the visiting Phoenix Suns. Portland certainly isn’t playing like the team that started 22-4, but it still has a crack at catching the fourth-place Houston Rockets as the Pelicans represent the first of three consecutive lottery-bound opponents.
