Preview Roundups
January 27, 2015
Toronto at Indiana 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Raptors look to string together three straight wins for the first time since mid-December when they hit the road to face the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. The Raptors are coming off two consecutive victories - including a hard-fought 114-110 triumph over the Detroit Pistons - after losing eight of their previous 11 in their worst stretch of the season. Toronto's last five games have been decided by six points or less as it hopes to beat the Pacers for the third consecutive time.
Cleveland at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The last time Cleveland faced Detroit, it suffered an embarrassing loss that sent the Cavaliers into a tailspin. When the teams meet again Tuesday in Michigan, Cleveland will be soaring and looking to take advantage of a Pistons squad that is still adjusting to the recent loss of leading scorer Brandon Jennings. The Cavaliers, whose loss to Detroit last month ignited a 1-9 slide, won their sixth straight with a 108-98 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday, capping a 4-0 homestand.
Milwaukee at Miami 7:30 PM ET
The Miami Heat haven't won three straight since claiming their first three games of the season, but they hope to change that when they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. Miami is on the brink of tying its longest streak of the season because of its solid defense of late, having held five straight opponents and nine of its last 10 under 100 points. The Bucks, who are sixth in the Eastern Conference - two games ahead of seventh-place Miami - have won the first two meetings this season.
Memphis at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Mavericks have suffered back-to-back losses but at least Monta Ellis is pulling out of his scoring slump. Ellis will try to follow up a 36-point effort when the Mavericks host the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Grizzlies are winners of three straight and six of seven, with the lone loss in that span coming at home to Dallas last week, and are playing the second night of a back-to-back after cruising past Orlando 103-94 on Monday.
Chicago at Golden State 10:30 PM ET
Klay Thompson set the bar ridiculously high with his NBA-record 37 third-quarter points on Friday but managed to follow that performance up in fine form as the Golden State Warriors stayed hot. Thompson will try to post his third straight game with 30 or more points when the Warriors host the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday. The Bulls looked strong in back-to-back wins over San Antonio and Dallas last week but fell at home to Miami on Sunday and are beginning a six-game trip.
Washington at L.A. Lakers 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Lakers will try to avoid stretching their losing streak to nine games — their longest in 21 years — when they host the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. The Lakers lost their final 10 games of the 1993-94 season, which remains their longest losing streak since moving to Los Angeles in 1960. Beating the Wizards will be a tall test, as they entered the week in second place in the Eastern Conference standings after narrowly avoiding a third straight loss Sunday at the Denver Nuggets.
