Preview Roundups
January 10, 2015
Charlotte at New York 1:00 PM ET
The Charlotte Hornets look to continue their recent surge when they stay on the road to face the New York Knicks on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets have reeled off four straight wins since dropping their previous five and are coming off an impressive 103-95 triumph over the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors on Thursday. Charlotte hopes to pour more misery on the Knicks by avenging two straight defeats at Madison Square Garden - including a 96-93 setback on Nov. 2.
Dallas at L.A. Clippers 3:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Clippers have won four of five games heading into their matchup Saturday afternoon against the visiting Dallas Mavericks, but have just one quality victory in the last month. The last four wins by the Clippers have come against teams with a combined record of 34-111 entering Friday. Their lone quality victory since Dec. 9 came Christmas night against the visiting Golden State Warriors, who were without starting center Andrew Bogut.
Brooklyn at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The Detroit Pistons hope to start another winning streak when they host the struggling Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. The Pistons had their improbable seven-game winning streak snapped with a 106-103 loss to Atlanta on Friday, but the Nets limp into town after suffering their fourth straight loss with a 90-88 setback to lowly Philadelphia. Brooklyn has won three straight in the series, though, including the first two meetings this season.
Indiana at Philadelphia 7:30 PM ET
The Indiana Pacers look to continue their best stretch of basketball of the season when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Starting with the broken leg suffered by Paul George in August, Indiana has been deluged by injuries all season long, starting its season 8-19. However, the Pacers have gotten healthier and rebounded a bit of late, surviving a 107-103 overtime thriller against Boston on Friday for their fourth win in six games.
Boston at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
Toronto has a golden opportunity to break a season-long four-game slide when it hosts struggling Boston on Saturday. The Celtics have lost eight of 10, have a quick turnaround following an overtime loss at Indiana on Friday and figure to be shorthanded after the trade of forward Brandan Wright to Phoenix and the reported agreement to ship leading scorer Jeff Green to Memphis. Jae Crowder received his first start with Boston in place of Green on Friday, collecting 11 points and seven rebounds.
Milwaukee at Chicago 8:00 PM ET
The Chicago Bulls are trying to pull out of a brief slump as they host the upstart Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. The Bulls are tied for third in the Eastern Conference and had been one of the hottest teams in the league before losing consecutive games for the first time since late November. They'll try to stop the slide with a fifth straight victory against Milwaukee, which has won two in a row and five of its last seven overall.
Utah at Houston 8:00 PM ET
The Houston Rockets needed an easy opponent on which to work out some of the kinks in their new rotation and found it Thursday in a 120-96 demolition of hapless New York. The Rockets will test out those improvements against a tougher opponent when they host the Utah Jazz on Saturday. The Jazz held off the Oklahoma City Thunder for most of the night Friday before fading at the end and will be playing the second night of a back-to-back at Houston.
San Antonio at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The slumping Minnesota Timberwolves attempt to halt a 14-game losing streak when they host the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Minnesota lost 98-84 to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and will be looking for its first win since Dec. 10 — exactly one month to the day. San Antonio has been struggling with injuries and Friday’s impressive 100-95 win over the Phoenix Suns was only its sixth in 15 games.
Orlando at Portland 10:00 PM ET
Portland’s Damian Lillard promises to be in the starting lineup when the Trail Blazers host the Orlando Magic on Saturday. The star point guard is experiencing lower back pain after colliding with Miami’s Dwyane Wade on Thursday and has been receiving treatment and expects to play in his 202nd consecutive game with Portland. “When it locked up to begin with, I tried to lay there for a second because it was numb a little bit,” Lillard told reporters. “It was painful.”
