Preview Roundups
January 04, 2015
Dallas at Cleveland 1:00 PM ET
Rajon Rondo is settling in nicely as the point guard for the Dallas Mavericks and he’ll try to help his new team win their fifth straight game Sunday at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rondo is coming off a season-high 29 points in Friday’s win against his former team, the Boston Celtics, and is averaging 17 points in the last six games. The Cavaliers will be without leading scorer LeBron James for another two weeks because of strains in his left knee and lower back.
Sacramento at Detroit 6:00 PM ET
It appears the release of Josh Smith three days before Christmas has provided Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy the kick-start he's been searching. The Pistons seek their first five-game winning streak since the 2009-10 season when they host the struggling Sacramento Kings on Sunday. Detroit was 5-23 with Smith in the lineup along with fellow bigs Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe, so Van Gundy and the Pistons decided to cut the veteran forward lose and start to mix in a more traditional lineup.
Brooklyn at Miami 6:00 PM ET
The Miami Heat are hoping that rock bottom has hit and there is nowhere to go but up. The Heat will try to bounce back from a 36-point loss when they host the Brooklyn Nets in the second night of a back-to-back on Sunday. Miami has dropped four straight while averaging 106.5 points allowed after falling 115-79 at Houston on Saturday to suffer its biggest loss of the season.
Milwaukee at New York 7:30 PM ET
Things just keep getting worse for the New York Knicks, which may be what the organization wants right about now. The Knicks, perhaps more focused now on positioning themselves for the No. 1 pick, will try to avoid an 11th straight loss when the Milwaukee Bucks visit Sunday. The final realization on the state of the season may have come Friday when the club reluctantly came to the conclusion that it may be best to sit Carmelo Anthony for an extended period of time to rest his injured knee.
Toronto at Phoenix 8:00 PM ET
The Toronto Raptors are coming to the end of their six-game road trip and are hoping to come out of it even when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. The Raptors have dropped two straight and are coming off a 126-105 loss at the Golden State Warriors on Friday. The Suns have the kind of offense that can put up 126 points if given the chance and showed off in a 112-96 victory over Philadelphia on Friday.
Indiana at L.A. Lakers 9:30 PM ET
Los Angeles has lost seven of nine games and Kobe Bryant is being asked to hoist more shots as the Lakers host the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. Bryant took three games off to rest and has focused on being a facilitator since returning and missed a tying 3-pointer as time expired in Friday’s 109-106 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Indiana has won five of its last seven games and defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 94-91 on Friday in the opener of a four-game road trip.
