Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 0: Carey Price posted his 31st career shutout and David Desharnais scored twice as Montreal extended its winning streak to four games while handing Toronto its 15th consecutive road loss.

Manny Malhotra scored his first goal of the season while Tomas Plekanec also tallied for the Eastern Conference-leading Canadiens, who have won five straight meetings with the Maple Leafs - including all three this campaign. Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher each notched two assists while Price made 30 saves en route to his sixth blanking of 2014-15.

Jonathan Bernier turned aside 19 shots for Toronto, which has not won away from home since topping Boston in a shootout on Dec. 31. The Maple Leafs went 0-for-3 on the power play as they were held to fewer than two goals for the 12th time during their slide on the road.

Montreal got on the board five minutes into the contest. Dale Weise skated down the middle on a partial breakaway before dropping the puck for Malhotra, who beat Bernier to the stick side with a wrist shot from the slot.

Plekanec doubled the lead with 7:03 remaining in the first period with a shot from high in the left faceoff circle that got past Bernier on the short side. Desharnais made it 3-0 just 61 seconds into the third, banging in a loose puck at the right post after a scramble in front for his first goal in nine games, and capped the scoring with an empty-netter late in the period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pacioretty's multi-point performance was his team-leading 16th of the season. ... The Canadiens moved three points ahead of the New York Islanders for the top seed in the East and climbed within two of Nashville in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. ... C Phil Kessel registered a team-high four shots for the Maple Leafs, who fell to 7-19-5 on the road this campaign.
