Nashville's Ryan Johansen, Roman Josi and Ryan Hartman scored their first goals of the season, and Pekka Rinne posted his 52nd career shutout when the host Predators beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Thursday.

Hartman scored on a breakaway early in the second period and Rinne nursed the lead until Johansen and Josi scored about seven minutes apart in the third.

Rinne made 29 saves, four on a Winnipeg power play midway through the third period and another on a breakaway by Blake Wheeler with three minutes remaining to preserve the shutout.

Nashville outshot the Jets 30-29 and won despite failing to convert on any of its nine power play chances in the first rematch of a 2018 Western Conference semifinal playoff series won by the Jets in seven games. Winnipeg won three playoff games in Nashville last season, including Games 5 and 7.

Hartman stole a cross-ice pass at center ice and skated in to put a backhander past Connor Hellebuyck at 3:02 of the second period.

Josi scored on a one-timer from between the circles for a 2-0 lead at 7:58 of the third period after Hartman started the play with a steal at the other end. Ryan Ellis also assisted.

Johansen scored on a backhander at 14:42 of the third period after taking a pass from Viktor Arvidsson.

Tempers flared at 15:41 of the second period, when Winnipeg's Nikolaj Ehlers and Wheeler and Nashville's Mattias Ekholm and Colton Sissons were given five-minute penalties for fighting.

Winnipeg also had five minor penalties in the second period but the Predators could not convert any of the power plays despite twice holding five-on-three advantages in the final five minutes of the period. Nashville had 13 shots on goal in the second period and Winnipeg had two.

The Jets also killed off a double minor against Patrik Laine for high sticking at 15:13 of the first period. The Predators were 0-for-4 on the power play in a 3-0 home loss to Calgary on Tuesday.

Hellebuyck made 27 saves while making his fourth straight start of the season.
