SUNRISE, Fla. -- There was a celebration for a goal that wasn't and a near score on the other end as a result.

There was a team meeting - after a win - an injury scare and a fight from an unexpected source.

About the only normal thing that happened to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night was a game-winning goal from right winger Jaromir Jagr.

It was Jagr's goal - which came with 11:49 left in the third period - that sunk the Calgary Flames 4-3 at the BB&T Center, snapping the Panthers' five-game losing streak.

But that wasn't enough to totally please the Panthers.

"It was a bit of a sloppy game," said Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo, who made 25 saves. "I'm not happy with the way I played."

Jagr's team-leading seventh goal of the season was ruled to be unassisted.

"It got to the wrong guy," Flames coach Bob Hartley said of the puck finding its way to Jagr, who also had an assist earlier in the game. "He can be a difference-maker, and that's what he was tonight."

The Panthers (6-6-3) got the start they wanted as they played the first of eight straight games in Florida -- seven home contests and one at the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It was the first time in six games that the Panthers had scored more than two goals, also getting markers from center Vincent Trocheck, right winger Reilly Smith and defenseman Aaron Ekblad. Left winger Jussi Jokinen picked up two assists.

Calgary (5-10-1) dropped the opener of a four-game road trip to end a modest two-game winning streak. The Flames got two goals from right winger David Jones and one from center Sean Monahan.

As for the game's oddities:

--Panthers center Derek MacKenzie got into a first-period fight with Calgary right winger Josh Jooris.

"I guess (MacKenzie) didn't like the hit they put on Ekblad," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. "When your team stands up for each other, that's a good sign. (MacKenzie) is not a big fighter. Our team's not a whole lot of fighters. But I thought the timing was right."

--In the third period, Trocheck thought he had his second goal of the night, which would have given Florida a 5-3 lead. Trocheck saw the red light and he went to the far corner to celebrate. But the officials ruled no goal and play continued, nearly resulting in a tie score on the other end.

"He likes to celebrate, doesn't he?" Gallant joked. "That would have been on every highlight if they had scored."

--On the injury scare, it was Luongo who took a couple of high shots.

"I was fine - more than anything, I needed a whistle just to calm things down," Luongo said. "They were buzzing."

Florida scored first, getting a power-play goal by Trocheck 45 seconds after MacKenzie's fight. A shot by Jokinen was stopped, but Karri Ramo (27 saves) left a juicy rebound, and Trocheck took advantage.

Less than two minutes later, Calgary evened the score on Jones' first goal. The play was set up by a sweet drop pass from center Joe Colborne, and Florida's defense was slow to react.

Florida took a 2-1 lead with 4:17 left in the first period. Ramo stopped another shot by Jokinen, but Smith pounced on the rebound, scoring off his backhand.

The Panthers went up 3-1 with 16:07 left in the second period. Jagr's lateral pass set up Ekblad's wrist shot for the goal.

Calgary cut its deficit to 3-2 when center Matt Stajan's stretch pass freed Jones ahead of Florida's defense. Luongo got his glove on Jones' high shot, but it trickled past the Panthers goalie.

The Flames tied the score 3-3 with 1:28 left in the second period. Right winger Jiri Hudler screened Luongo and got his stick on a shot by defenseman TJ Brodie. Monahan then cleaned up with his fourth goal of the season.

Still, despite their effort to rally and tie the score, the Flames came up short.

"It wasn't our best game," said Jones, who now has five goals this season. "We turned a lot of pucks over. At some point, it was bad bounces off the boards. But they did a better job of creating chances through turnovers."

NOTES: Panthers C Dave Bolland (hand) returned after missing two games. ... Florida sent rookie LW Connor Brickley, 23, down to the AHL's Portland Pirates. A second-round pick in 2010, Brickley had one goal and two assists in 10 games. ... Panthers C Derek MacKenzie entered Tuesday with a team-best plus-7 rating. ... Florida scratched D Steven Kampfer and LW Shawn Thornton. ... Flames LW Micheal Ferland (lower-body injury) played for the first time since Oct. 23. ... Since Jagr wore No. 68, Frolik opted for one spot below him -- No. 67. ... Frolik, 27, is 16 years younger than Jagr. Frolik's nickname growing up: "Baby Jagr." ... Calgary scratched LWs Brandon Bollig and Mason Raymond, and D Ladislav Smid.
