Senators 2, Lightning 1 (OT): Defenseman Patrick Wiercioch scored his third goal of the season at 4:43 of overtime as Ottawa defeated visiting Tampa Bay.
Rookie Mark Stone recorded his 20th goal before his cross-ice pass set up Wiercioch, who hammered a shot from the right faceoff circle through a screen for the winner. Kyle Turris notched two assists while Andrew Hammond made 28 saves to improve to 16-1-1 overall and keep the Senators within three points of Boston for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference with a game in hand.
Jonathan Drouin scored his second goal in three games for the Lightning, who lost for the fourth time in five contests (1-3-1) but remained one point behind first-place Montreal in the Atlantic Division. Ben Bishop turned aside 32 shots for Tampa Bay, which dropped to 1-2-1 on its five-game road trip.
Stone opened the scoring 5:03 into the contest, chipping in a rebound for his second goal in four games after Bishop denied Turris' shot from the point. The Lightning tied it during a power play with 3:07 left in the first period as defenseman Anton Stralman slid the puck to a wide-open Drouin, who beat Hammond to the glove side from the right circle.
Ottawa failed to take advantage of two power-play opportunities in the second period while Hammond kept it tied with 10 saves, including a big glove stop on Lightning captain Steven Stamkos. Each team registered eight shots in the third session and Bishop made the biggest save, denying David Legwand on a short-handed breakaway.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Stone and Turris each have collected 11 points in their last nine contests. … Lightning C Tyler Johnson, who missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury, was nominated for the Bill Masterton Trophy. … Tampa Bay's Mark Barberio played his 100th career game and fellow D Slater Koekkoek, who is from nearby Winchester, Ont., made his second NHL appearance with four regular blue-liners out with injuries.
