Senators 5, Sharks 2: Mika Zibanejad scored a pair of goals, the second igniting a third-period comeback as host Ottawa extended its winning streak to a season-high seven games and vaulted past Boston for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

Alex Chiasson and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also netted third-period tallies while rookie Mike Hoffman added an empty-netter to go with two assists as the white-hot Senators improved to 15-1-1 in their last 17 contests to move one point ahead of the idle Bruins. First-year sensation Andrew Hammond, nicknamed "The Hamburglar," turned aside 29 shots to remain undefeated in regulation (14-0-1) while Bobby Ryan chipped in three assists.

Joe Pavelski and Chris Tierney scored 30 seconds apart in the middle period for San Jose, which suffered its fourth loss in five games to deal another blow to its flagging playoff hopes. Antti Niemi made 32 saves for the Sharks, who fell eight points behind Calgary for third place in the Pacific Division and 10 in back of Winnipeg for the second wild card in the Western Conference.

Hoffman tossed a backhander at the net from above the right faceoff circle that deflected off the knee off an onrushing Zibanejad and past Niemi 14:09 into the game. San Jose answered with a pair of quick strikes as Pavelski dived into the crease to chip a rebound past Hammond during a power play at 12:47 of the second period before Tierney finished off a 2-on-1 rush with a backhander in front.

Zibanejad ignited the third-period barrage at 2:19, lifting the stick of Tierney in front before turning and beating Niemi up high. Chiasson put the Senators ahead by redirecting a shot by Mark Stone with 7:49 to play before Pageau converted during a 3-on-1 rush 72 seconds later, burying a return pass from captain Erik Karlsson to bring the first celebratory hamburger onto the ice.
