Blues 4, Flames 0: Brian Elliott made 25 saves to set a franchise record for shutouts and Alexander Steen scored twice as visiting St. Louis moved into sole possession of first place in the Central Division.

Captain David Backes added a goal and two assists and Jori Lehtera also tallied as the Blues improved to 5-1-0 in their last six to tie Anaheim for the most points in the Western Conference with a game in hand. T.J. Oshie collected a pair of assists while Elliott registered his 30th shutout overall and 21st with St. Louis - eclipsing the previous team mark held by Jaroslav Halak.

The Blues blanked an opponent for the third time in four games to raise their season shutout total to 10 (five by Elliott) - second to the New York Rangers. Jonas Hiller turned aside 22 shots in defeat for Calgary, which is tied with Los Angeles on points for third in the Pacific Division but dropped outside of the playoff picture.

After its fourth straight game with a scoreless opening period, St. Louis broke the deadlock 11 1/2 minutes into the second. Backes sent a crossing pass to Steen, who used Flames defenseman Kris Russell as a screen before rifling a shot from the top of the right circle that beat Hiller high to the glove side.

The Blues doubled the lead 78 seconds into the third as Vladimir Tarasenko stole a puck behind the net and sent a pass to Jaden Schwartz, who set up Lehtera for a one-timer from the slot. Steen connected again just over eight minutes later, blasting another laser past Hiller off a faceoff for his 22nd tally before Backes scored into an empty net with 5 1/2 minutes remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Steen has tallied three times in the last two contests following a 13-game goalless drought. ... Flames C Mikael Backlund, who turned 26 Tuesday, registered a game-high five shots on net but had his point streak halted at eight contests. ... Blues F Paul Stastny appeared in his 600th game while Calgary's Russell played in his 500th. ... D Barret Jackman, one of three St. Louis players to appear in the first 69 games, was a healthy scratch.
