Avalanche 2, Devils 1 (SO): Jarome Iginla scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as host Colorado continued its domination of New Jersey to remain in the postseason chase.

Iginla also scored in regulation and Ryan O'Reilly converted in the bonus format as the Avalanche improved to 7-0-1 in the last eight against the Devils. Semyon Varlamov, back in the lineup after missing one game due to a groin injury, made 23 saves and sealed the victory by stopping Patrik Elias in the shootout for Colorado, which resides six points behind Los Angeles in the race for the second wild card in the Western Conference.

Defenseman Andy Greene scored the lone goal for New Jersey, which has managed only nine goals in the past eight matchups with the Avalanche. Cory Schneider made 28 saves as the Devils fell 13 points behind eighth-place Boston in the East.

New Jersey came out much sharper than in Tuesday's 6-2 drubbing at Minnesota, dominating the opening 20 minutes by outshooting the Avalanche 13-3. Colorado broke the scoreless deadlock, though, when Iginla swept home a loose puck from the slot 2:27 into the second for his 22nd goal.

The Devils tied it nearly 12 minutes later on a slap shot from Greene from just inside the blue line. Schneider preserved the tie with third-period saves on captain Gabriel Landeskog and O'Reilly before denying Alex Tanguay on a breakaway in overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Following a 70-game drought dating to last season, Greene scored for the third time in 10 games and has six points in his last six contests. ...
