Flames 6, Ducks 3: Rookie Johnny Gaudreau and Matt Stajan each scored twice to extend their respective point streaks as host Calgary improved to 4-0-1 in its last five contests.
Sean Monahan added his team-leading 25th goal and Jiri Hudler also tallied to match Gaudreau with a five-game point run for the Flames, who scored four times on seven shots during the second and third periods. Defensemen Kris Russell and Dennis Wideman recorded three assists apiece and Karri Ramo turned aside 29 shots.
Captain Ryan Getzlaf scored twice early in the first period for Anaheim, which has dropped three in a row in regulation and is even in points with Montreal, Nashville and the New York Rangers atop the league. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm also tallied and John Gibson yielded six goals on 23 shots.
Rookie Michael Ferland's centering feed from deep in the right circle caromed off Stajan's skate and past Gibson to hand Calgary a 3-2 lead 7:28 into the second period. Monahan scored from the slot for a power-play goal 1:25 later and Gaudreau also converted with the man advantage at 13:59, wiring a shot from the right circle off a nifty feed from Wideman to push the Flames' lead to 5-2.
Getzlaf took advantage of a turnover by Calgary's David Jones to open the scoring 22 seconds into the contest and recorded his 21st career multi-goal performance at 2:51 after cleaning up a juicy rebound in the right circle for a power-play goal. Stajan extended his point streak to four games at 10:32 and Gaudreau responded to having one potential goal disallowed due to a high stick by making good on his backhanded attempt at 15:25.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Gaudreau (18 goals, 32 assists) became the first Calgary rookie to break the 50-point plateau since Jarome Iginla (21, 29) in 1996-97. The 21-year-old Gaudreau has scored three goals and set up three others on his point streak. ... Getzlaf's first tally gave him 670 career points, moving him past Paul Kariya for second place on the franchise list. ... Hudler has collected five goals and four assists and Monahan has scored four tallies and set up two others on their respective five-game point streaks.
