Wild 3, Senators 2 (SO): Charlie Coyle scored the decisive goal in the fifth round of the shootout as red-hot Minnesota halted visiting Ottawa's five-game winning streak.

Defenseman Matt Dumba netted a pair of goals while captain Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville tallied in the bonus format as the Wild improved to 14-2-1 in their last 17 games and maintained control of the second wild card in the Western Conference. Mikael Granlund collected two assists and Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves while denying rookie Mike Hoffman in the bonus format to clinch the win in his franchise-record 21st consecutive start.

Bobby Ryan scored and set up Mika Zibanejad's tally for the Senators, who suffered their first loss on their five-game road trip (3-0-1) but closed within six points of Boston in the race for the second wild card in the East. Andrew Hammond lost for the first time in six NHL starts despite turning aside 36 shots.

After a scoreless opening period, Dumba broke the deadlock 52 seconds into the second with a one-timer from just inside the top of the left faceoff circle. The rookie doubled the advantage just over seven minutes later, when Chris Stewart's pass from behind the net hit Ottawa defenseman Marc Methot and the skate of Hoffman before finding Dumba alone in front for his fourth goal in seven games.

Ottawa needed only 28 seconds to respond as Zibanejad corralled a bouncing puck in the slot and beat Dubnyk with a turnaround shot. Ryan notched the equalizer with 8:12 left in the period, burying a one-timer from near the left hash marks off a feed from Hoffman, and Hammond preserved the tie by denying defenseman Jonas Brodin and Coyle on break-ins during overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wild extinguished four power plays - although Ottawa hit the post three times on the last chance - and are 47-for-48 on the penalty kill over 17 games since the All-Star break. ... Zibanejad extended his point streak to four games with his 16th tally, matching his career high set last season. ... Stewart picked up an assist in his Minnesota debut while D Jordan Leopold, also acquired at Monday's trade deadline, logged 17:19 of ice time.
