Kings 1, Red Wings 0: Jonathan Quick posted his 35th career shutout and Justin Williams scored a power-play goal less than three minutes into the contest as host Los Angeles extended its winning streak to eight games.

Anze Kopitar and defenseman Jake Muzzin each recorded an assist for the Kings, who are one victory away from matching the longest winning streak in franchise history set in 2009-10. Quick, the NHL's reigning First Star of the Week, made 20 saves en route to his fourth blanking of the season.

Jonas Gustavsson stopped 26 shots for the Red Wings, who fell to 2-1-1 on their six-game road trip. Drew Miller registered a team-high four shots as Detroit was shut out for the third time this campaign and second this month.

Los Angeles wasted little time getting on the board, converting a power-play opportunity 2:24 into the first period for a 1-0 lead. Muzzin unleashed a blast from the left point that was tipped first by Kopitar in the left faceoff circle, then by Williams in front for his 16th of the season.

Quick made the goal stand, turning aside six shots in the opening session and seven in each of the final two periods for his second career shutout against the Red Wings. The 29-year-old, who has allowed fewer than three tallies in each of his last five contests, also helped extinguish five power-play opportunities for Detroit.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles C Jeff Carter was kept off the scoresheet, ending his six-game point streak. ... Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg missed his second straight contest with an upper-body injury. ... The Kings earned a split of the two-game season series despite being outscored 5-3.
