Hurricanes 4, Flyers 1: Cam Ward made 23 saves in his 500th career game and defenseman Justin Faulk collected a power-play goal and an assist as host Carolina defeated Philadelphia for the sixth time in seven meetings.

Jordan Staal also tallied with the man advantage and Jeff Skinner scored his fifth goal in seven games for the Hurricanes, who have won four straight home contests versus the Flyers for the first time since Nov. 25, 1989-April 12, 1992 - when the franchise was located in Hartford. Jay McClement provided insurance with 5:23 remaining in the third period and Alexander Semin notched two assists in the victory.

Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann scored his career-high fourth goal for Philadelphia, which suffered its second regulation loss in 14 contests (8-2-4). Rob Zepp turned aside 31 shots while making his fifth consecutive start.

Semin wired a sharp feed from along the right-wing boards to the left doorstep for Skinner, who beat Zepp at 2:16 of the second period to give Carolina a 2-1 lead. Semin wasn't done as he made a deflection of Faulk's shot from the point that Zepp denied, but Staal shoveled home the rebound at 15:55 to double the advantage.

Faulk's one-timer from the top of left faceoff circle sailed over the right shoulder of Zepp 7:29 into the first period to open the scoring. Philadelphia answered just over 10 minutes later as Grossmann accepted Jakub Voracek's backhanded feed and skated into the left circle before his wrist shot beat Ward for his first goal since Dec. 20.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ward became the fourth active goaltender to reach the 500-game milestone, joining Henrik Lundqvist (613) of the New York Rangers, Marc-Andre Fleury (578) of Pittsburgh and Ryan Miller (540) of Vancouver. ...
