Canucks 5, Rangers 4 (SO): Captain Henrik Sedin scored twice in regulation before Alex Burrows and Radim Vrbata converted in the shootout as Vancouver opened its five-game road trip by snapping a five-game winless streak versus New York.

Sedin forged a 4-4 tie with two minutes remaining in the third period by cleaning up a rebound from the right doorstep following a soft shot by defenseman Dan Hamhuis. Ryan Miller (30 saves) made a pad stop on Mats Zuccarello in the first round of the shootout before Burrows beat Cam Talbot between the pads, and Vrbata sealed the win in the second round by lifting a backhand shot under the crossbar.

Shawn Matthias celebrated his 27th birthday by scoring his sixth goal in seven contests for the Canucks, who salvaged a split of the two-game season series with the Rangers. Rookie Bo Horvat scored to extend his point streak to five games while Daniel Sedin, Jannik Hansen and Ronalds Kenins each recorded two assists.

Derek Stepan, Martin St. Louis and Carl Hagelin registered a goal and an assist apiece while Rick Nash added his team-leading 36th tally for New York, which saw its four-game winning streak come to a halt. Defenseman Dan Girardi notched two assists and Talbot finished with 24 saves in falling to 5-1-2 in place of the injured Henrik Lundqvist.

Henrik Sedin deflected defenseman Adam Clendening's blast from just inside the blue line during a power play at 3:55 of the third period to give Vancouver a 3-2 edge, but the Rangers tallied twice in 21 seconds to claim their third lead of the contest. Stepan wired a sharp diagonal pass off the right-wing boards to St. Louis, who scored from the right faceoff circle at 5:03 before Hagelin extended his stick to deflect Girardi's shot past Miller.
