Islanders 5, Predators 2: Defenseman Nick Leddy scored a goal and set up two others as New York continued its recent home success against league-leading Nashville.

Captain John Tavares and blue-liner Johnny Boychuk each recorded a tally and an assist while defenseman Brian Strait and Josh Bailey also scored for the Islanders, who improved to 5-1-1 in their last five home meetings with the Predators. Michael Grabner notched a pair of assists to double his season total and Jaroslav Halak made 30 saves en route to his franchise record-tying 32nd victory.

Rookie Filip Forsberg and James Neal tallied for the Predators, who had their six-game winning streak come to an end. Defenseman Roman Josi assisted on both goals and Pekka Rinne turned aside 35 shots in falling to 15-2-1 in his last 18 outings.

New York started quickly as Strait beat Rinne from the left hash marks exactly one minute into the contest, and Boychuk buried a blast from the right point midway through the first period to double the lead. Tavares made it 3-0 with 1:39 remaining in the session, when he fired the puck past Rinne from the left faceoff circle after Leddy's shot from the right circle was blocked.

The Predators began their comeback attempt 81 seconds later, as Forsberg swept the puck inside the right post from the inner edge of the right circle, and Neal one-timed Mike Ribeiro's cross-ice pass by Halak from the right circle with 3:22 left in the second to cut the deficit to one. Leddy created breathing room seven minutes into the third by converting Colin McDonald's cross-slot pass and Bailey restored the three-goal advantage 1:39 later, when Josi's clearing attempt caromed off Rinne and into the net after the Islanders center threw the puck into the crease at the left post.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York's victory was its 39th of the season, tying Nashville for the league lead. ... The five goals are the most Rinne has allowed in a game since Jan. 3, when he surrendered six in an overtime victory at Los Angeles. ... Tavares has collected five goals and four assists during his four-game point streak. ... Halak matched the club mark for wins in a season shared by Billy Smith (1981-82), Chris Osgood (2001-02) and Rick DiPietro (2006-07). ... Nashville again was without D Cody Franson and C Mike Santorelli, who were acquired from Toronto on Sunday but have been delayed from joining their new team due to immigration issues.
