Lightning 4, Ducks 1: Defenseman Anton Stralman recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Tampa Bay scored four times in the second period to defeat Anaheim.
Captain Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov also tallied while Ondrej Palat added a pair of assists as the Lightning extended their point streak against the Ducks to nine games (5-0-4). Ben Bishop turned aside 24 shots – 13 in the third period -- for his 29th victory of the season for Tampa Bay, which improved to 2-1-0 on its five-game road trip.
Patrick Maroon scored the lone goal for Anaheim, which is mired in a 1-4-1 slide that includes two losses against the Lightning. John Gibson made 28 saves for the Ducks in his third straight start since Frederik Andersen went down with an injury.
Maroon flipped in a rebound 4:17 into the game to open the scoring, but Stralman deflected Brian Boyle’s shot from the left point 4:31 into the second to tie it. The Lightning took the lead 1:24 later as Palat tracked down a rebound in the bottom of the left faceoff circle and slid the puck into the crease for Johnson to tip in.
Kucherov deflected Stralman’s shot and the puck found its way underneath Gibson after hitting a defender's skate before it squirted into the net at 18:05 of the middle session. Stamkos scored his 31st goal of the season from the bottom of the left circle after receiving a nifty cross-ice pass from Alex Killorn with 21 seconds remaining in the period for a 4-1 lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Stamkos has collected five goals and nine points in six career games against Anaheim. …The Ducks, who already are without Sami Vatanen for 4-6 weeks, scratched fellow D Hampus Lindholm with a lower-body injury. … Stralman recorded his seventh multi-point performance of the season and second in the last four contests. ... Tampa Bay had a 20-5 shot advantage in the second period.
