Kings 4, Avalanche 1: Tyler Toffoli recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Los Angeles scored three times in the second period en route to its sixth consecutive victory.

Jeff Carter tallied twice and captain Dustin Brown added a goal for the Kings, who have won three straight on the road after going 5-12-6 in their first 23 away from home. Defenseman Drew Doughty notched a pair of assists and Jonathan Quick finished with 42 saves.

Captain Gabriel Landeskog scored for the Avalanche, who completed a 2-2-0 homestand. Nathan MacKinnon recorded an assist and Semyon Varlamov turned aside 22 shots in his his 14th straight start.

The Avalanche jumped out to an early lead as MacKinnon made a pass from below the left faceoff circle to Landeskog, who beat Quick with a one-timer from the left faceoff at 3:09 of the first period. Los Angeles pulled even 76 seconds into the middle session, when Carter deflected Toffoli's wrist shot from above the slot following a turnover.

The Kings grabbed the lead at 6:24 as Trevor Lewis lifted a backhanded lead pass from the neutral zone to Toffoli, who slipped a backhander past Varlamov on a short breakaway. Brown doubled the advantage with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the period, converting Doughty's feed from behind the net for his second goal in 10 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carter completed his third two-goal performance of the season with a power-play empty-netter in the final minute of the third period. ... Toffoli has recorded six goals in as many games and at least one point in five of his last six contests. ... Carter and LW Dwight King (assist) each extended their point streaks to five games for Los Angeles, with the former recording four goals and five assists while the latter has netted three tallies and set up five others.
