Avalanche 5, Coyotes 2: Matt Duchene scored one goal and set up another to reach the 300-point plateau in his career as host Colorado rolled to victory.

Cody McLeod, captain Gabriel Landeskog and defensemen Nick Holden and Tyson Barrie also tallied for the Avalanche, who improved to 2-1-0 on their four-game homestand. Jarome Iginla and blue-liner Zach Redmond each recorded two assists and Reto Berra stopped 11 shots in the third period after relieving Semyon Varlamov, who did not face a shot in the second session after making four saves in the first.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mark Arcobello recorded goals for the Coyotes, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss and sixth in seven games. Mike McKenna turned aside 29 shots in his season debut.

Colorado built a quick 2-0 lead as McLeod backhanded his own rebound past McKenna from the doorstep 2:54 into the contest and Duchene converted a pass from Iginla at the bottom of the slot nine seconds later. Ekman-Larsson halved the deficit midway through the first period with a blast from high along the left-wing boards, but Holden restored the two-goal advantage with a one-timer during a power play with 5:02 left in the session.

Iginla made a pass from the left corner to Barrie, who beat McKenna from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle at 7:28 of the second to make it 4-1 and Landeskog scored from the left side of the crease with 2:42 remaining in the period to increase the lead. Arcobello deflected defenseman Michael Stone's shot from above the right circle 2:37 into the third, but the Coyotes would get no closer.
