Rangers 5, Coyotes 1: Rick Nash scored his league-leading 35th goal early in the third period and Cam Talbot made 34 saves as visiting New York presented Alain Vigneault with his 500th career coaching victory.

Rookie Kevin Hayes tallied in his third straight contest to extend his point streak to five games for the Rangers, who improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight outings. Chris Kreider, Lee Stempniak and defenseman Marc Staal also scored while Derek Stepan and blue-liner Kevin Klein each notched a pair of assists.

Antoine Vermette scored from the doorstep in the second period for Arizona, which has lost five of its last six overall and seven straight home games. The Coyotes failed to solve Talbot again, as the netminder thwarted Tobias Rieder's bid on a penalty shot in the third period with the outcome still in doubt.

Klein wired a hard lead pass from deep in his own zone to Nash, who skated in from the blue line and wristed a shot from the right faceoff dot that sailed under the crossbar 79 seconds into the third period to give New York a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Matt Hunwick pulled down Rieder five minutes later to set up a penalty shot, but Talbot closed his pads on the attempt to preserve the slim advantage.

Hayes doubled the lead at 11:54, skating up the left wing and weaving around sliding defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson before beating Mike Smith (27 saves) under the crossbar for a short-handed goal. New York kept the pressure on as Staal and Stempniak scored 3 1/2 minutes apart to seal the win.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After moving into a tie with Terry Murray following New York's 6-3 triumph over Colorado on Thursday, Vigneault became the 21st coach in league history to win 500 games by defeating Arizona. He pulled even with Toe Blake and resides one victory behind Pat Burns for 19th place. ... Rangers RW Mats Zuccarello saw his career-high seven-game point streak come to a halt. ... Arizona C Joe Vitale blocked three shots in his return from an upper-body injury.
