Canadiens 2, Maple Leafs 1 (SO): Brendan Gallagher tallied in regulation and David Desharnais scored the decisive goal in the shootout as Montreal extended its winning streak against its Original Six rival to four games by handing Toronto its 13th straight road loss (0-12-1).

Alex Galchenyuk beat Jonathan Bernier to open the bonus format and Carey Price denied Tyler Bozak before Desharnais avoided the goaltender's poke-check attempt and buried a backhander. Mike Santorelli converted Toronto's second attempt, but James van Riemsdyk shot wide in the third round to end the contest as the Maple Leafs fell to 1-12-2 in their last 15 overall games and 2-15-2 since the beginning of 2015.

Price improved to 9-1-0 in his last 10 decisions by turning aside 28 shots for the Canadiens, who went 2-0-1 on their three-game homestand - with all three contests going beyond regulation. Daniel Winnik scored in the first period and Bernier made 31 saves for the Maple Leafs, who have scored a total of 14 goals during their 13-game road slide.

Toronto opened the scoring with 8:41 remaining in the first period. Richard Panik sent a pass from below the end line on the right side of the net to Winnik for a shot from the right faceoff circle that beat Price to the glove side.

Bozak was called for hooking moments afterward and the Canadiens pulled even during the ensuing power play. Just 41 seconds after Winnik's goal, Gallagher backhanded a loose puck on the doorstep into the net after Tomas Plekanec's shot from the right circle was blocked.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maple Leafs RW David Clarkson, who was a healthy scratch twice in the team's previous three games, participated in a pair of first-period fights and collected 27 penalty minutes - including a game misconduct. ... Panik's assist was his 12th point of the season, one shy of his career high set last campaign with Tampa Bay. ... Montreal improved to 6-1 in shootouts this season.
