Coyotes 3, Blackhawks 2 (SO): Antoine Vermette scored in both regulation and the third round of the shootout as visiting Arizona benefited from a controversial video review in overtime to avenge last month's lopsided loss to Chicago.

Andrew Shaw's shot late in the extra session initially was denied by Mike Smith (36 saves), but the puck trickled along the goal line before being swept away - with the play being upheld by officials after a lengthy video review. Lucas Lessio converted after a series of moves in the first round of the shootout and Patrick Kane answered in the second before Vermette's backhander slid between the pads of Antti Raanta (27 saves) to clinch the win for the Coyotes.

Captain Shane Doan scored a power-play goal for Arizona, which snapped its two-game skid (0-1-1) and improved to 2-10-4 against Central Division representatives heading into Tuesday's road contest versus St. Louis. All-Star Oliver Ekman-Larsson notched two assists and fellow defenseman Keith Yandle added one to extend his season-high assist streak to seven games.

Marian Hossa recorded his second consecutive two-goal performance for the Blackhawks, who had a much easier time of it during their 6-1 rout of the Coyotes on Jan. 20. Captain Jonathan Toews registered two assists as Chicago fell in the opener of its eight-game homestand.

Hossa shoveled home Toews' sharp feed from the right corner 12:44 into the second period to draw first blood, but Arizona answered less than five minutes later as Yandle's shot from above the right faceoff circle deflected off Doan and into the net. Ekman-Larsson unleashed a blast from the point that Vermette deftly deflected over the right shoulder of Raanta at 3:59 of the third before Hossa's wrist shot from the slot banked off Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek and past Smith at 12:18 to forge a 2-2 tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yandle tied Tampa Bay's Tyler Johnson for the longest assist streak in the league this season. Yandle has collected nine assists during his run. ... Kane was held off the scoresheet to remain tied with Philadelphia's Jakub Voracek and Dallas' Tyler Seguin at a league-high 59 points. ... Fans at United Center were presented with a bobblehead featuring Hossa's likeness prior to the game.
