Avalanche 3, Stars 2 (SO): Maxime Talbot scored the decisive tally in the 11th round of the shootout after visiting Colorado scored twice in the third period to erase a two-goal deficit.

Ryan O'Reilly recorded a goal and an assist while defenseman Tyson Barrie netted the tying tally with 19.7 seconds left in the third period as the Avalanche beat Dallas for the third straight time this season and moved one point ahead of the Stars. Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves while Danny Briere and captain Gabriel Landeskog kept Colorado alive by scoring in the eighth and ninth rounds of the bonus format.

Patrick Eaves and Erik Cole scored in the first period for Dallas, which fell to the Avalanche for the seventh time in their last eight meetings. All-Star Tyler Seguin, Antoine Roussel and Colton Sceviour tallied in the shootout before Kari Lehtonen (22 saves) was beaten by Talbot's forehand to the far left corner of the net.

Eaves opened the scoring with his third goal in four games since returning from a broken ankle, drilling a one-timer from the right faceoff circle during a power play at 6:47 of the first period. Ales Hemsky intercepted a pass by Colorado defenseman Nate Guenin deep in the offensive zone and sent a pass back to Cole, who ripped a one-timer past Varalmov with only 51.5 seconds left in the middle session.

O'Reilly cut the deficit in half just over six minutes into the third, pouncing on the puck after blue-liner Brad Stuart's blast ricocheted off the end boards and tucking it behind Lehtonen. With Varlamov off in favor of an extra attacker, Barrie notched the equalizer with a slap shot through a maze to force overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cole, who had missed the previous three games due to an upper-body injury, has scored seven goals in his last 10 contests. ... Stuart ended his nine-game point drought with an assist on O'Reilly's tally. ... Eaves' goal was the seventh power-play tally in the last three games for Dallas.
