Blues 2, Lightning 1 (OT): Jaden Schwartz scored 1:16 into overtime as St. Louis rallied to extend its point streak to a franchise record-tying 12 games (11-0-1).
Schwartz burst up the middle before deking and flipping the puck past Ben Bishop while going to the ice as the Blues won for the sixth time this season when trailing after two periods. Vladimir Tarasenko scored late in the third period to force the extra session and fellow All-Star Brian Elliott turned aside 30 shots while also assisting on the winning goal.
Cedric Paquette scored his sixth goal in the last four games for the Lightning, who went 0-for-3 on the power play. Bishop, who started his career with the Blues, made 16 saves as Tampa Bay fell to 22-0-2 when leading after two sessions.
Paquette steamed through the left faceoff circle to lift the rebound of Alex Killorn’s shot past Elliott on the glove side 5:20 into the contest to open the scoring. Elliott, who improved to 8-0-1 in his last nine decisions, denied Ryan Callahan and Nikita Kucherov on point-blank chances while Bishop stopped all 10 shots he faced in the second period.
The Blues managed just one shot through the first 14 minutes of the third period, but they killed off two Lightning power plays and Elliott made big stops on Ondrej Palat and Paquette. Tarasenko tied the game with 3:10 left in regulation with a shot over the glove of Bishop from the top of the right circle after a faceoff win by Paul Stastny.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Blues also had 12-game point streaks during the 2000-01 and 1968-69 seasons. … St. Louis Cs Jori Lehtera and Patrik Berglund each missed their third straight game with upper-body injuries while All-Star D Kevin Shattenkirk remains out indefinitely after suffering an abdominal injury on Sunday. … Tampa Bay rookie LW Jonathan Drouin notched an assist on Paquette’s goal, his fifth during a four-game point streak.
