Brett Connolly and Valtteri Filppula also tallied for the Lightning, who won for the 12th time in 16 games overall after killing off all three of Columbus' power-play opportunities. Ben Bishop turned aside 34 shots for his 10th victory in 12 decisions, losing his shutout bid with 3:26 to go as Tampa Bay took over first place in the Atlantic Division.

All-Star Ryan Johansen scored his team-leading 19th goal of the season and second in three games for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped seven of their last 10 contests. Curtis McElhinney made 31 saves for Columbus, including one on a breakaway chance by Ryan Callahan in the second period to keep his team within a goal.

Defenseman Jason Garrison kept puck in at the left point and moved it to the bottom of the left faceoff circle for Brenden Morrow, whose touch pass toward the slot was chipped in by Connolly with 23.5 seconds left in the first period. Bishop made 16 saves, including a sprawling glove stop on Mark Letestu, in the second session to maintain the lead.

Bishop held the fort again in the third before Paquette knocked in the rebound of rookie Jonathan Drouin’s drag attempt in front with 9:58 to go. Filppula capitalized on a turnover 1:41 later, moving in alone to whip a shot past McElhinney on the stick side and off the left post for a 3-0 lead.
