Red Wings 5, Wild 4 (SO): Gustav Nyquist recorded a goal and an assist in regulation before sealing the victory in the shootout as host Detroit extended its winning streak to a season-high five games despite blowing a three-goal, third-period lead.

Pavel Datsyuk scored the decisive goal in the bonus format while rookie Teemu Pulkkinen and defensemen Jonathan Ericsson and Xavier Ouellet tallied in regulation as the Red Wings remained one point behind Atlantic Division-leading Tampa Bay. Captain Henrik Zetterberg collected three assists and Petr Mrazek made 34 saves en route to his fourth straight victory.

Zach Parise tallied twice in the third period to extend his goal-scoring streak to four games, Thomas Vanek notched a goal and an assist and captain Mikko Koivu also scored for Minnesota, which tumbled to its 14th defeat in 18 games (4-9-5). Devan Dubnyk was chased after allowing four goals on 10 shots and Darcy Kuemper stopped all 14 shots he faced before yielding tallies on both shootout attempts he faced.

With the Red Wings leading 2-1 after one period, Nyquist redirected defenseman Niklas Kronwall's power-play shot out of mid-air at 3:41 and Ouellet extended the lead with a shot that caromed off the skate of Minnesota's Justin Fontaine less than four minutes later. Parise started the comeback six minutes into the third, converting a cross-crease pass from Jason Pominville before Vanek's backhander exactly four minutes later made it 4-3.

Parise pulled the Wild even with 6:39 left in the third, pouncing on a giveaway by Ericsson and beating Mrazek for his fifth tally in four games. Pulkkinen scored his first career goal on a one-timer from the slot 9:09 into the contest and, after Koivu tied it on the power play, Ericsson buried a slap shot from the left point with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nyquist notched his 11th goal on the power play, tying him with San Jose's Joe Pavelski for second in the league behind Alex Ovechkin (12). ... Koivu extended his point streak to four games while halting a nine-game goalless drought. ... Pulkkinen, called up from the minors on Jan. 8 when C Johan Franzen was placed on injured reserve, also collected his first NHL point in his sixth game this season and ninth career.
