Flyers 3, Penguins 2 (OT): Captain Claude Giroux scored a power-play goal 3:57 into overtime as host Philadelphia won a physical encounter to post its sixth consecutive victory over its Keystone State rival.

Pittsburgh killed off Zach Sill's cross-checking penalty to begin overtime but promptly was whistled for a too-many-men infraction. The Flyers made the most of their sixth power-play opportunity as All-Star Jakub Voracek's shot from the right faceoff circle handcuffed Thomas Greiss, and Giroux alertly spotted the loose puck on the edge of the crease and slapped it home on his game-high 10th shot.

Chris VandeVelde scored in his third straight game and defenseman Luke Schenn netted his first goal in 26 contests for Philadelphia, which posted its second win in three games. Voracek notched his fourth assist in three contests for his NHL-leading 56th point and Ray Emery turned aside 33 shots to end a personal five-game losing streak.

Chris Kunitz scored a short-handed goal and Beau Bennett also tallied for the Penguins, who lost defenseman Kris Letang to injury and fell for the third straight time to drop to 6-8-4 against Metropolitan Division rivals. Greiss finished with 37 saves in the setback.

Despite being outshot 13-1, Philadelphia drew first blood at 13:11 of the first period as Schenn intercepted Bennett's blind clearing attempt and wristed a shot past a screened Greiss. Kunitz's wrist shot from the left circle beat Emery inside the near post 2:59 into the second and Bennett scored from the left doorstep 2:01 into the third to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead, but VandeVelde deflected defenseman Michael Del Zotto's shot inside the left post just over two minutes later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Letang was drilled into the boards by Philadelphia C Zac Rinaldo, with the latter leaving his feet in the process. Rinaldo was whistled for a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct following the hit on Letang, who did not return to the contest. ... Voracek took exception to a low-bridge hit by Penguins D Rob Scuderi and immediately dropped the gloves to earn an instigator penalty in addition to a five-minute major for fighting and 10-minute misconduct. ... Pittsburgh went 0-for-6 on the power play and has failed on its last 24 opportunities versus Philadelphia.
