Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester appeared to have scored from the outer edge of the left faceoff circle at 3:08 of overtime, but the apparent goal was negated as Patrik Berglund was whistled for goaltender interference. Oshie's wrist shot beat Cam Ward to open the bonus format and Allen closed his pads on both Jeff Skinner and captain Eric Staal before ending the contest with a glove save on Alexander Semin.

Vladimir Tarasenko celebrated being named to the All-Star Game roster by scoring a goal while Alex Steen, Jaden Schwartz and Berglund also tallied for St. Louis, which has scored 24 times during its winning streak. Captain David Backes and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo notched two assists apiece and Allen made 19 saves in relief of Brian Elliott, who yielded three goals on 10 shots.

Skinner and Victor Rask each collected a goal and an assist while Staal and Riley Nash also scored for the Hurricanes, who fell to 3-10-3 with one tie in their last 17 visits to the Gateway City. Ward turned aside 31 shots in dropping to 5-1-2 lifetime versus St. Louis.

Schwartz picked off a clearing attempt before tucking the puck past Ward at 4:07 of the second period and Berglund scored from the high slot 54 seconds later as St. Louis forged a 3-3 tie. Nash regained the lead for Carolina by converting from deep in the left circle with 4:54 remaining in the session before Tarasenko reeled in a stretch pass from fellow All-Star Kevin Shattenkirk and beat Ward at 6:46 of the third.
