Coyotes 4, Jets 1: Mikkel Boedker scored a pair of goals and set up another as host Arizona won for the fifth time in seven games.

Captain Shane Doan had a three-point night with a goal and two assists, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored on the power play and Antoine Vermette collected two assists as the Coyotes avenged a 6-2 loss to Winnipeg in the season opener. Beleaguered goaltender Mike Smith, who surrendered 25 goals in his previous six starts (1-5-0), made 34 saves and permitted fewer than two goals for the first time since Nov. 8.

Mathieu Perreault broke up Smith's shutout bid less than seven minutes into the third period for the Jets, who suffered their fourth defeat in five games. Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 26 shots in losing his third straight start (0-2-1).

Arizona seized control with a pair of power-play goals in the first 3:18 of the contest. Boedker beat Pavelec top shelf 70 seconds after the opening faceoff and Doan slid a pass to an oncoming Ekman-Larsson, who converted from in close for his 11th tally of the season.

Doan extended the lead with 4:25 left in the middle session, tucking home a rebound from the right side of the net during another man advantage. Perreault finally got Winnipeg on the board at 6:49 of the third, burying a between-the-legs redirect from captain Andrew Ladd, but Boedker answered just over two minutes later to restore the three-goal cushion.
