Justin Abdelkader notched a goal and two assists, defenseman Kyle Quincey scored his second goal and Luke Glendening added a power-play empty-netter for the Red Wings. Datsyuk also recorded an assist while Jimmy Howard turned aside 21 shots for Detroit, which improved to 1-1-0 on its six-game road trip.

Jordan Eberle scored both goals for the Oilers, who saw their four-game point streak (2-0-2) come to an end. Viktor Fasth made 37 saves for Edmonton, which finished the first half of the season with only nine victories.

Fasth stopped all 12 shots he faced in the first period and Eberle moved in alone from the left faceoff circle to beat Howard on the short side during a power play at 15:29 for a 1-0 lead. Quincey had his shot blocked in the right circle but tracked down the loose puck in the slot and beat Fasth 10:44 into the second to forge a tie.

The Red Wings took the lead on the power play with 1:31 left in the middle session, when Abdelkader deflected defenseman Niklas Kronwall’s point shot between Fasth’s pads. Eberle tied the game with 4:05 remaining in the third, converting a pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, before Benoit Pouliot took a double-minor for spearing to set the stage for Datsyuk's winning tally, which began as a pass before going in off a defender's stick.
