Flyers 2, Senators 1 (SO): Wayne Simmonds scored the tying goal in the third period before netting the decisive tally in the fifth round of the shootout as host Philadelphia snapped its five-game losing streak.

Jakub Voracek tallied in the first round of the bonus format and captain Claude Giroux notched an assist in his return to the lineup as the Flyers ended a string of 10 straight shootout losses in their first home game since Dec. 18. Steve Mason made 41 saves and stopped the final four attempts he faced in the shootout to end a personal five-game skid (0-3-2)

Rookie Mike Hoffman scored the lone goal for Ottawa, which kicked off a four-game road trip with its fifth loss in seven contests (2-3-2). Craig Anderson had his two-start winning streak halted despite making 33 saves.

Philadelphia had the best chance in a slow-paced opening period as R.J. Umberger's tip hit the post, while Clarke MacArthur had several superb chances denied by Mason in the second, including a one-timer in front. Hoffman finally broke the scoreless deadlock 6 1/2 minutes into the third on what appeared to be an offside play, blowing around Philadelphia defenseman Mark Streit and jamming the puck past Mason.

The Flyers answered 2:23 later, needing only eight seconds to convert on the power play after MacArthur was whistled for hooking. Giroux slid a pass to an uncovered Simmonds near the left post, and he quickly spun and beat Anderson with 11:01 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Flyers C Brayden Schenn was cut on the chin by the skate of Simmonds in the second period but returned in the third. ... ... Ottawa failed on four power-play chances and is 0-for-25 over its last seven games. ... Giroux, who missed one game after he was cut by a skate on his lower left leg, collected his 17th point in 15 games.
