Capitals 3, Penguins 0: Eric Fehr scored a pair of goals to back Braden Holtby's 14th career shutout as visiting Washington halted its eight-game losing streak against Pittsburgh.

Marcus Johansson also tallied and ex-Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik recorded an assist as the Capitals improved to 8-1-2 in their last 11 overall while ending a five-game skid in Pittsburgh. Holtby, making his career-high 12th straight start, turned aside 31 shots en route his third shutout of the season and first victory in five career starts versus the Penguins.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves as Pittsburgh saw its losing streak reach a season-high three games (0-2-1). The Penguins failed on four power-play chances, including a 5-on-3 for 34 seconds in the third period.

Fehr broke the scoreless deadlock with 2:13 left in the opening period. Jay Beagle centered a pass from behind the net that was blocked by Pittsburgh defenseman Scott Harrington and caromed toward Fleury, but Fehr rushed in to stuff home the loose puck.

Washington preserved the lead until Johansson finished a 2-on-1 rush 5 1/2 minutes into the third period, whistling a wrister from the right faceoff circle into the far corner of the net. Fehr provided an insurance tally midway through the session, barely getting his stick on a loose puck to nudge it into the net as he was knocked to the ice.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Beagle assisted on Fehr's first goal to give him a career-high 10 points. ... Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had his seven-game point streak against Washington halted. ... Orpik, who played his first 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, received a standing ovation early in the contest. ... Penguins C Brandon Sutter returned from a two-game absence, but RW Steve Downie and backup G Thomas Greiss were out with the mumps.
