Maple Leafs 4, Kings 3 (SO): Joffrey Lupul scored in the first round of the shootout and James Reimer stopped all three attempts he faced as host Toronto skated to its fifth consecutive victory.

Lupul opened the bonus format by sending a wrist shot just over the glove of Jonathan Quick to give the Maple Leafs the early advantage. Reimer denied Marian Gaborik and captain Dustin Brown before getting just enough of his glove on Anze Kopitar's attempt to seal the victory.

Mike Santorelli celebrated his 29th birthday by matching defenseman Cody Franson with a goal and an assist for Toronto, which improved to 9-1-1 since a 9-2 loss to Nashville on Nov. 18. James van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal and Reimer finished with 33 saves to improve to 3-0-1 in his career versus Los Angeles.

Justin Williams collected a goal and an assist while Gaborik and Dwight King also tallied for the Kings, who fell for the fourth time in five contests and dropped to 4-6-5 on the road. Defenseman Alec Martinez notched a pair of assists and Quick turned aside 28 shots.

After the Maple Leafs seized a 2-0 advantage, Williams halved the deficit by chipping the puck past Reimer at 16:02 of the second and King tucked the puck inside the left post with 14 seconds left in the period. Williams' cross-crease saucer pass found Gaborik at the left doorstep 62 seconds into the third to give Los Angeles a 3-2 lead, but van Riemsdyk converted eight seconds into a power play by redirecting Phil Kessel's centering feed at 8:49 to forge a tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto drew first blood as Santorelli circled the net and beat Quick over his right shoulder with six minutes remaining in the first period and Franson doubled the advantage 5 1/2 minutes later with a blast from the point for his fifth goal. ...
