Riley Sheahan and Gustav Nyquist netted power-play goals for the Red Wings, who have points in nine of their last 10 games (7-1-2). Jimmy Howard stopped 24 shots in defeat.

Sheahan opened the scoring during a man advantage at 5:03 of the first period, when he banged home the rebound after Luongo turned aside Pavel Datsyuk's initial shot. Fleischmann evened things just over two minutes later and Huberdeau put the Panthers ahead at 13:55, retrieving a loose puck deep in the offensive zone before spinning around and whipping a low shot just inside the right post.

Nyquist drew Detroit even with 39 seconds remaining in the session, spinning around Fleischmann in the slot and lifting a backhander past Luongo. The game remained tied through the final 40 minutes of regulation and five of overtime, with the teams combining for just 25 shots over the second and third periods.
