Penguins 3, Flames 1: Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 26 shots as host Pittsburgh beat Calgary for the eighth consecutive time.
Blake Comeau, defenseman Kris Letang and Rob Klinkhammer scored while Evgeni Malkin added two assists for the Penguins, who were without NHL assists leader Sidney Crosby. The superstar captain came down with an undisclosed illness and also will miss Saturday's game against Columbus while undergoing further tests.
Johnny Gaudreau netted the lone goal for the Flames, who have dropped a season-high four straight contests. Jonas Hiller made 19 saves in defeat.
Comeau put Pittsburgh on the board just 48 seconds into the game with a snap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that beat Hiller high to the blocker side. Letang made it 2-0 at 4:43 of the first period, getting free behind Calgary's defense and redirecting fellow defenseman Simon Despres' point shot.
Gaudreau responded for the Flames at 12:15, flipping a backhander into a wide-open net after Markus Granlund's initial shot was stopped. But Fleury kept Calgary at bay in the third and Klinkhammer put away the game with 2:47 remaining, converting a pass from Steve Downie for his first goal as a Penguin.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Penguins did get back a pair of key players, as RW Patric Hornqvist returned from a two-game absence due to an undisclosed injury and Letang played for the first time in six contests after dealing with an injured groin. ... Calgary hasn't beaten Pittsburgh since Dec. 3, 2005. ... Both teams went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
