Sharks 2, Flyers 1: Matt Nieto scored with 11.5 seconds to play in the third period as San Jose sent Philadelphia to its eighth consecutive road defeat.

After Patrick Marleau broke in and was denied in tight by Steve Mason, Nieto buried a backhander into an open net as the Sharks improved to 13-1-0 with two ties in their last 16 meetings with the Flyers. Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic also scored and Antti Niemi turned aside 28 shots to give San Jose its second straight win following a four-game drought (0-2-2).

Sean Couturier netted a power-play tally for Philadelphia, which lost for the ninth time in 10 overall games (1-8-1) and matched its longest road losing streak since 1988. Steve Mason fell to 0-3-1 in his last four starts despite making 25 saves.

The Flyers had failed to open the scoring in their first 11 road games but finally put an end to the string at the six-minute mark of the opening period. Scott Laughton earned his first career point by sliding a backhand pass to Couturier, who beat Niemi on the short side from just inside the top of the left faceoff circle.

Niemi denied defeneman Nicklas Grossmann on a breakaway early in the second, allowing the Sharks to tie it as Tommy Wingels fed a rushing Vlasic, who snapped a shot over Mason's right shoulder with 2:16 left in the period. San Jose's Andrew Desjardins had a breakaway six minutes into the third but fanned on his backhand attempt to keep it tied before Niemi turned away a pair of chances by Michael Raffl.
