Lightning 6, Rangers 3: Brett Connolly and Tyler Johnson each recorded their second goal of the game in the third period as visiting Tampa Bay snapped a tie en route to its third victory over New York in 15 days.

Ondrej Palat scored a late short-handed, empty-net goal and added an assist, Matt Carle also tallied and fellow defenseman Victor Hedman notched three assists for the Lightning. Ben Bishop turned aside 32 shots to remain unbeaten (8-0-0) against the Rangers in his career as Tampa Bay extended its winning streak to four games.

Kevin Hayes, Jesper Fast and Martin St. Louis tallied for New York, which has been outscored 15-7 by the Lightning in the three losses. Rick Nash recorded an assist to extend his point streak to six games and Henrik Lundqvist made 15 saves for the Rangers, who could not convert with a power play in the final 1:47 of the contest.

St. Louis swept in a rebound while on the power play 9:24 into the second before Carle roofed a shot from in close with 5:37 left in the period to tie it at 3-3. Connolly took a pass from captain Steven Stamkos and beat Lundqvist from the right faceoff circle during a man advantage 5:34 into the third and Johnson - who also had an assist - scored 84 seconds later after a steal by Nikita Kucherov for a 5-3 lead.

Johnson knocked in a rebound 6:32 into the game to open the scoring before Hayes chipped in Carl Hagelin’s feed from behind the net at 12:14. Connolly scored through a screen from the slot with 3:58 left in the first period, but Derick Brassard looped into the slot and found Fast wide open at the right post 2:42 into the second to even the contest.

GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Louis was honored for scoring his 1,000th career point in a ceremony before the game. The veteran recorded 953 of his 1,001 points in 13 seasons with Tampa Bay. … The Rangers were without D Dan Boyle due to flu-like symptoms. … It was the first multi-goal game of Connolly’s career.
