Jets 1, Rangers 0 (SO): Evander Kane scored the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout and Ondrej Pavelec made 38 saves as visiting Winnipeg won for the third time in four games.

Kane beat Henrik Lundqvist after Pavelec stopped three shots in a row as the Jets improved to 2-1 in games that have gone beyond regulation this campaign. Pavelec posted his 12th career shutout as he weathered a strong attack that saw the Rangers outshoot Winnipeg 38-25, but New York finished 0-for-5 on the power play to drop to 2-for-28 on the season.

Mats Zuccarello scored for New York to begin the shootout, but after Blake Wheeler answered for Winnipeg, Pavelec stopped Rick Nash, Dominic Moore and Martin St. Louis. Kane, playing in his second game since suffering a knee injury in the season opener, wristed the puck over Lundqvist's right shoulder for the winner.

Pavelec made 10 saves in the first period, stopping Chris Mueller from point-blank range in the final minute of the session. Pavelec turned away 16 shots in the second and stopped St. Louis on a breakaway in overtime to keep the game scoreless.

Lundqvist - who recorded his 52nd career shutout and second this season - was nowhere near as busy but nonetheless stymied the Jets, stopping Mark Scheifele from the slot midway through the opening period and denying Kane from the edge of the crease eight minutes into the second. Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien each had good scoring chances in overtime, but Lundqvist - who finished with 25 saves - denied both chances.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York captain Ryan McDonagh separated his left shoulder on a hard hit in the corner by Kane in the first period and did not return, while fellow D Kevin Klein also left the contest with a foot contusion. … The Jets had not gone into overtime scoreless since Dec. 29, 2011 versus Los Angeles. … Winnipeg is 2-0-1 on its four-game road trip, which ends Sunday at Chicago.
