Ducks 2, Stars 1 (OT): Corey Perry scored his league-leading 10th goal and set up Nate Thompson's tally 2:30 into overtime as visiting Anaheim continued to fluster Dallas.
In overtime, Perry unleashed a blast from above the left circle that Thompson deftly deflected past Kari Lehtonen for his first goal of the season. Perry, who opened the scoring with 3:15 remaining in the second, moved past idle Rick Nash of the New York Rangers atop the league in tallies.
Frederik Andersen finished with 21 saves for the Ducks, who eliminated the Stars in six games during last season's first-round series. Francois Beauchemin notched the 150th assist of his career and fellow defenseman Josh Manson nearly scored his first career goal in his NHL debut midway through the third period, but officials immediately waved it off as Tim Jackman collided with Lehtonen.
Antoine Roussel scored with 5:27 remaining in the third period and Lehtonen turned aside 22 shots to fall to 4-0-4 this season for the Stars, who suffered their third straight loss (0-1-2). Tyler Seguin and captain Jamie Benn were held off the scoresheet and saw their respective seven-game point streaks come to an end.
Dallas forged a 1-1 tie as defenseman Trevor Daley wired a sharp backdoor feed from along the right-wing boards near the right circle to Roussel, who shoveled the puck home from the left doorstep. Perry drew first blood with the teams skating 4-on-4, breezing up the right wing and unleashing a blast from the circle that beat Lehtonen.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Anaheim allowed just one shot on goal in the second, tying a franchise record for the fewest in that period (vs. Phoenix, March 27, 2007). ... Ducks D Mark Fistric (lower body) missed the contest and returned to Anaheim. He is considered day-to-day. ... The Stars went 0-for-6 on the power play, marking the first time in seven games that the team failed to score with the man-advantage.
