Maple Leafs 4, Sabres 0: Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel each recorded a goal and an assist while Jonathan Bernier made 10 saves as host Toronto cruised past Buffalo.

James van Riemsdyk and defenseman Jake Gardiner also scored for the Maple Leafs, who peppered Michal Neuvirth with 37 shots in the one-sided victory. Bernier, who posted his eighth career shutout, wasn't busy but was solid when it counted after coming into the night 1-3-1 with a 3.38 goals-against average.

Neuvirth was the lone star for lowly Buffalo, which has scored only 10 goals in its opening 10 games. The Sabres already have been shut out four times in 2014-15.

Toronto dominated the scoreless opening period, outshooting the visitors 17-4. The Maple Leafs kept the pressure on in the middle session and finally were rewarded during a power play with 50 seconds left in the period as Bozak accepted Kessel's pass at the Sabres' blue line and broke in alone before snapping a low shot past Neuvirth on the glove side.

Toronto pulled away with goals a minute apart in the third, as Kessel fired a shot from behind the end line that banked off Neuvirth at 4:18 and van Riemsdyk one-timed defenseman Morgan Rielly's pass at the edge of the crease past the beleaguered goaltender. Gardiner's first of the season at 9:17 capped the scoring, and Bernier stopped both shots he faced in the third to preserve his first shutout of the campaign.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Sabres are behind last year's league-worst scoring pace of 12 goals over their first 10 games. ... Kessel and new linemates Joffrey Lupul and Nazem Kadri combined for 18 of Toronto's 37 shots. ... The Maple Leafs went 1-for-6 with the man advantage, while Buffalo misfired on its only opportunity to fall to 0-for-31 on the power play this season.
